I am another newbie with no references and am quite paranoid about providing personal information electronically, which gives me great concern filling out on-line forms or using verification services.
Would it be realistic for me to email a provider and offer to provide them with whatever information they need over the phone? Or would that phone call never happen?
I have never filled out a form online. But the only 'puters I use are mine.
I instead have a TRACFONE and a website that matches my business card. Still working on a whitelist posting.
I have had several new members email me to set up an appointment. I typically exchange a few emails before calling them. I guess they feel more comfortable giving me the information first hand than going through TER. Backwards thinking, in that TER is here to protect ALL of us as much as possible.
I guess it depends on the provider and what she feels comfortable with. My previous career required heavy duty screening of people, so I can get a good feel from the first conversation. Not everyone's bs meter works as well and extra precautions are necessary.
You can always email the provider. It's always worth a shot that she will call you.

After finding TER and spending time going through the boards, reviews the whole 9 yards, I decided to take a chance and used the on-line forms for 2 providers and provided very minimal information about myself, my name and the city I live in. What I did do was put in the comments / additional informationn section of the form (many provider sites I looked at had this option on their contact form) and basically said (without too much begging) HI - here's some basic information about me with the offer of providing additional information if requested - do I have a chance? I did this with 2 providers and ZING - got a positive response agreeing to spend time from both. I was very careful NOT to be too specific in my requests mostly - I saw your reviews on TER, here's my TER VIP name and would like to meet. But the kicker here may be that I was looking to make an appointment for early Feburary in Las Vegas (not where I live). It may be since I was giving a LOT of lead time they were more comfortable that I wasn't LEO. Don't know. All I know is it worked for me. The providers I choose to take this path with seemed more open and available based on the TER reviews for them so I took the chance. But to twist it a bit YEMV (Your Experience May Vary).
I forgot to add this the best part - neither of the 2 providers that responded positively asked for ANY additional information or references.
