I'm betting on Mr. Richard Sherman's  defense teaching Peyton a  few new tricks .

If somehow {I seriously doubt it } Manning wins another Super Bowl ,I will move him up in my list , right behind  Brady , five spots below Montana .

hat Peyton Manning has been able to consistently do in the regular season is mind boggling. Year after year after year his teams are superlative in the regular season. They are always in the playoffs mix. He has started 15 full seasons and in 13 of those seasons his team had at least 10 wins. He is a 4 time league MVP and # 5 is around the corner. A remarkable career.

But I can't call him the best QB ever. Fair or not, QB's are judged (as are centers in basketball---it's the Wilt v. Russell argument) by Championships. It's the nature of the beast. It's why Dan Marino is wrongly overlooked when people rank QB's. It's why people view Troy Aikman as a better QB than Dan Fouts. Peyton's sub par playoff record will always be a point of discussion. The bottom line, he hasn't played as well in the post season as he has in the regular season. Also, we are in an era of offensive football. How would some of the other immortals...Unitas, Baugh, Graham, Montana, have done in this era?  Up for debate.

At the end of the day, he'll prob. hold most (if not all) significant passing records in NFL history. And there is no doubt, when his career draws to a close, arguments will be made in favor of anointing him the best ever. But at this point, with only one Championship under his belt (a second one would help the cause), I can't call him the greatest QB who ever lived

His defenses weren't horrific. There's only so much one man can do

With the colts that defense was the worst I ever seen in my life they could not stop the run... teams ran on them at will!

And last year the Broncos, give up a 78 yard pass with 20sec are you kidding me.

You could make up a team featuring myself, Curly, Gambler, pleasme, you, courtney, LR, CPA, OSP and Nicky46... and no way in fucking hell would we have allowed the Ravens to go 80 yards with 20sec on the clock.

es, Denver had the Raven's game won last year. Any high school team knows to have their safety deeper than the most downfield wide receiver in a desperation heave scenario. It was a horrible mistake. I agree that Peyton played well enough in the divisional game last year to have the Broncos advance (though he did make a horrible throw in the second OT to allow the Ravens the winning FG, but I digress)

But even though the Colts defense was not dominant for most of his career there, Peyton does not and should not get a free pass for some of those post season losses. (particularly the back to back losses at New England in 2003/2004  when he was not sharp) He's 11-11 in the post season.  Some of those losses are on him.

Look Tom Brady's ranking among the immortals has taken a hit in recent years. He was 12-1 in the post season to start his career (winning 3 SB's). He's 6-7 since (an no SB's)

This is not a knock on Peyton. He is iconic great. I am just not ready to anoint him as the greatest QB of all time

But his teams were built around a very strong offense which certainly helped him attain some of the passing stats.  The question is what stats would he have given up with less skilled offensive players but what additional post season games would they have won with better defensive players?

Peyton or his offenses were never the problem.

Playoff games he would've won with a defense
2000 vs Titans  Colts defense gave up 162 yards rushing to Eddie George

Dec. 30, 2000, wild card, Colts at Dolphins Colts soft defense gave up 209 yards rushing

Jan. 13, 2008 divisional, Chargers at Colts defense gives up 28 points

Jan. 3, 2009, wild card, Colts at Chargers defense gives up 24 pts and Manning never touches the ball in OT

Jan. 12, 2013, divisional, Ravens at Broncos With Denver up by 7 the defense gives up a 80 yard TD with 30sec remaining

Yes, its easy to say that Peyton would have won some of those games with a better defense. But not always the case.

The 2000 wildcard game against the Titans (who went on the SB), the Colts lost 19-16.  How much better could the defense have played?

The next year against the Dolphins, the Colts fell 23–17 in overtime. Manning passed for 194 yards and a touchdown. He didn't exactly light it up.

Two losses in the playoffs to the Patriots; 24-14 and 20-3...considering the games were on the road to Tom Brady and the Patriots, both of those were credible defensive efforts.

In 2005, as the # 1 seed, the Colts were down 21-3 in the third quarter. They got a gift no call on a 4th quarter would be interception by the Steelers that would have iced it. The Colts lost 21-18.  Again, the defense put the Colts in position to win.

As others have pointed out, the Colts were loaded on offense. They had a Hall of Fame receiver in Harrison, a possible hall of famer in Reggie Wayne, an all pro tight end in Dallas Clark, the Edge running the ball, a solid offensive line.  Take some of those offensive players away in favor of better defensive players and who knows what the results would have been.

Peyton's defense has not always played great in the post season, but he hasn't always either

Are you kidding me the Colts defense gave up 162 yard rushing to Eddie George that's beyond pathetic.. The Titans controlled the ball damn near the whole game

The next year they give up 209 yards rushing to the dolphins... they can't stop the run, he's on a pathetic team who can't stop the run!

I never mentioned the losses at NE, those losses were on him, but the losses that I did mention the defense was pathetic.

And yes he was loaded with offensive talent, I'm guessing that's why they neglected to worry about stopping the run.

And I don't judge players by championships, Trent Dilfer has a ring, but he not even in the same league as Jim Kelly or Dan Marino

I am surprised to see how well they really are as a team and the fresh face s Make us girls happy to .
I will be rooting them to victory in NY .
:)))) and love from Jennxj6

He has a long way to be considered the greatest of all time.  Personally, I think his boss it the best quarterback to ever play the game.  Elway took 3 team to the Super Bowl who had no business going. Then when he finally got a running back behind him he wins two in a row.  Montana would be second.  Sure Montana has more rings, but also had a massively superior supporting cast than Elway ever did.

Peyton needs to win this one, and possibly one more, to get that distinction in my mind. Definitely needs to improve is playoff record, which another Super Bowl run will certainly do.

Just one guys opinion

cashorcredit232 reads

But you tell me who you'd want with one game to win Elway or Manning?

No one can match Peyton's football IQ

OK, Ok, Ok.......I congratulated you on another board but they pulled it. You were right and lesson learned. Now if you would be kind enough and let me finish cleaning these crow feathers from my teeth I would appreciate it, I have a nooner to get to. He played a great game!

You know I just had to rub it in just a little lol.

Like making guarantees lmao

Bradshaw, Stabler, Fouts etc....fans may disagree with your "greatest" claim. I will agree that there are very few quarterbacks that I would give a 3rd and 15 to other than Peyton. I believe the greatest player "today" is Megatron.

This is an interesting statement you've made

After watching him on Monday night football against the Ravens im beginning to wonder if he better than AJ Green let alone being better than Peyton.

If you had bet every playoff game and Super Bowl Manning's been in , to win , you would be money behind .

If somehow {I seriously doubt it } Manning wins another Super Bowl ,I will move him up in my list , right behind  Brady , five spots below Montana .

Even though Peyton's the best player in the world, I would never bet every game he's been in because most of his career he's never had a defense.

If you do bet Seattle you better hope for rain and snow, because a fucked up field would be their only chance of winning
