I certainly don't want to be called a fear monger but it is good to know some facts, especially those relevant to your own life choices. It would be a good idea for everyone to do one minute of research to see how Ebola is transmitted and to see that while it can be an epidemic threat it is not as easy to transmit as some people falsely believe. On a point more relevant to the hobby, should things develop badly please be aware of this:

You can get Ebola from direct contact with the bodily fluids of an infectious person

This is the main method of transmission.

You can get Ebola if the blood, saliva, sweat, vomit, urine, semen or other bodily fluids of a sick person comes into direct contact with your broken skin or mucous membranes such as the mouth, nose, eyes or vagina.

Therefore, activities such as kissing, sharing food or having sex with an infectious person all provide potential for transmission. Needles are also a risk factor.

With Ebola, the most infectious bodily fluids are blood, faeces and vomit

you should put off that trip to West Africa . . .

and probably be packing for a move to a remote area of Alaska!

Personally I suspect it is a more contagious that officials are admitting.  Some of these people who have caught it clearly had the training and such to know how to avoid such contact, yet they still got it.  So yeah if it comes here I will be considering becoming Bob the Hermit somewhere remote.

On the plus side, now that it has become such a problem there is definitely money to be made in developing a vaccine.  An experimental one is currently being tested and I hope one will be in full production within the next year or so.

saying because they are idiots for waiting for it to reach the U.S. If the person who was in full protection got infected, then it may be contaigious by air, because even a cough or sneeze transmits saliva "bodily fluid" into the air and can be breathed in by others within 15 feet.

Since humans don't become infectious until the onset of symptoms - fever, muscle pain, fatigue, headache, sore throat, vomiting - I would assume the party exhibiting or observing said symptoms would have the inclination and decency to cancel the date, regardless if the Ebola virus is involved or not.

Any providers interested in camping out with me for a couple of years in Alaska?

I would be really pissed if I was near her on that flight!
