You have a PMAs 50+ year old (son, husband, father) watching his Father, dwindle I'm thankful for for several relationships I've have/had during my short time in the hobby.
As much as i prepared, it is more difficult then I imagined to see a loved one getting ready to fail. He was my Dad, friend, and kicked my ass when I needed it. I think he made me an ok hobbyist. 7/7 if rated.
I wish to thank a few friends for helping preparing me for what is all our end:

First of all, to Carl - my sincerest sympathies are with you and your family. I've lost a lot of friends in the past 18 months, many of them too early (and I'm not even 50, so you know I'm not kidding). One of my buddies from H.S. just lost his dad - a great guy who I know he'll miss terribly (and who filled the same role for my friend that your dad did for you).
As for the rest of us: None of us gets out of here alive. If you don't have an estate plan, you should - it's not just for rich people (as way too many people think). I've seen too many people in Carl's position have their lives made harder by their parent's failure to plan. It's stressful enough to go through this, don't add to your family's stress by leaving them a mess. And don't think your kids/relatives will all get along swimmingly, either. When it comes to money, sadly, people act much differently
