My IT consulting company puts people outta work! - somebody has to do it!  I have 4 consultants write some whiz-bang code for a few months and hundreds of jobs are eliminated.

These are low-end mindless jobs that are eliminated that no one really wants to do, but, they gotta eat.  The only/best answer to this issue is that people have to "move up" their skills thru training etc. - they'll make more $$$ and be happier. Take advantage of automation rather than fight it.

Trump should stop bragging that he's gonna reopen the coal mines - which ain't gonna happen, BTW - and instead, he should provide training programs/services to help these guys qualify for better jobs.  I gotta believe that ANY job vs. being a coal minor is a better job.

My father was a welder in the Chevy plant years ago.  I took a tour of BMW plant 2 years ago. He'd be rolling over in his grave if he could see how cars are made today.  A handful of people wearing white coats....and a buncha computers, and a buncha robots doing the "heavy lifting."

Without a big investment in job retraining program, this is not going to help the jobs market.    Also, Seattle and San Francisco area has seen steady decline in unemployment due to record growth in IT jobs market.

Not looking good for the Clowns in Washington whose agenda does not include anything about retraining people for jobs of the current tech trend and immediate future.   If tech companies cannot find qualified people here, they will ship "work" overseas, not necessarily jobs.   My company regularly contracts work to other countries, mostly India, Ireland and Philippines.

Maybe you should contact your representative and ask them about it.

Congress writes the laws...

How do you know his agenda doesn't include this? Did you think about asking him or his admission about it?  Whining about it on a fuck board, doesn't get the message out.

How do you know I have not talked with my Senator?    I am not whining, this board is for discussion of political landscape.   How do I know his agenda does not include this?    The way things are going now, there is no agenda, just inventing conspiracies and covering up Russian connection.

look no further than your beloved Queen Hillary and her Bill....approved Uranium sale to Russian company; her main advisor Podesta gets paid in rubles for his work with Russian companies; Clinton Foundation payoffs from Russian cut-outs and sympathizers, etc, etc....Main street media protects the family from any credible investigation while foaming at the mouth over Trump "talking to Russians". Seems Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) is highly contagious!

WTF!  You have a problem staying on topic?   We are talking jobs.

Exactly.   I am in IT business too and can vouch for your take on automation and loss of jobs.   Just imagine how many people were let go by Bank of America when they introduced credit card payments at any of their ATMs?   Hundreds.   Gone are mailing paper statements, gone are tearing off the stub, gone are writing a check, gone are mailing the stub and check, putting a stamp!

Same thing happened whey they introduced depositing cash and checks at any of their ATMs.   Honestly I cannot remember when was the last time I went inside my bank.   Now I deposit my checks from my smart phone!

If the Federal Government does not embark on an aggressive job retraining programs, there will be thousands of people losing their jobs every 3 to 4 months as automation picks up.

Gone? Wrong again snowflake.

These things are NOT gone. You opt out of getting those things mailed to you. I have ZERO balances on several credit cards and still get paper statements monthly telling me ZERO balance and ZERO due. So YOU program writers are not very good at your job and it's no wonder we keep getting hackers obtaining our CC info and other personal info through web sites.

Maybe you program writers need to spend less time on TER and more time writing secure programs.

Many many elderly still do their finances the old fashion way.
