You are on the right track by searching TER reviews to select a provider and being honest with her.  Keep trying!  I started only eight weeks ago and did the same thing- contacted, was honest and found someone who would see me. It really didn't take many calls to be successful, I think you will find same if you are sincere.

Encouraging- every one of us was in same boat first visit and there are a lot of hobbiests here, so all crossed that hurdle.

Suggestions:
1.  Click the TER Instruction manual link at the top of the FAQ Newbie page and read everything in it- then you won't commit any faux paux in emailing/calling that will shoot you down before you start!
2.  Pick about fifteen well reviewed providers and a couple well reviewed agencies in your area.  Read all their websites, expecially the FAQ sections.  My bet is that you'll find at least a couple who discuss newbies in their FAQ's.  Generally the ones that have forms to fill out are the ones who definitely want references.  Ones that say contact by phone you may have the best chance as they get an impression while talking to you.

3. An occasional provider's website talk about relying on their instincts- and you may find that in calling that you will have luck there.

4.  Start participating in discussions on your regional board- as providers see your TER handle and if you offer that in email or discussion, they may be more receptive.

5. Join a verification service such as Room Service 2000, Date check, preferred 411- gives you a little added credibility from the get go!

Newbie here.  I have been searching around on TER and have found someone that I would like to hook up with.  I have had several emails, but when she asked for verification, i said that i could Re: employment, but couldnt regarding references from other providers.  I explained again that I was a newbiew and asked for help in getting her the information she requested.  That was a week or more ago and I havent heard from her yet.  So, My question is "What is the best way to get verified if you have never seen a provider?"
Thanks for any advice

gb22 has become my mentor, I follow all his advice.

Some providers are more cautious than others when it comes to screening, and some can afford to be because they have built up a clientele. But there are plenty of providers that will work with you, probably want to speak with you directly and verify your information to make sure that you are safe.  Just keep trying and you'll get there.   You may have to take the Pinto for a spin before you get to drive the Rolls Royce.

I agree with Tigermuff there are plenty of providers who will work with you, they will ask you for some personal info. There are providers who see newbies and some that don't.

I am a newbie as well, my fist experience was went off with out a hitch I was very upfront gave my name and my cell number ( only I answer it) and since I have had very little problems. good luck and keep trying

www.preferred411.com

This is one of the BEST ways to get started.  Once you get your client ID, you contact a provider, give her that info, she reads it, you get an appointment.  Once you have seen the provider, ask her to give you an OK (or some, like myself) will go in and OK you anyway. The more OK's you get assures the provider your a good guy and eases the worry on the provider accepting the appointment.

With the provider only having to click the link, check out the info, decreases the amount of time she would normally have to check out your info (work/board handle/reviews/provider references etc) all by just a click of the link! And the info you provide in the profile gives the provider a sense of "who you are" "what you like/dislike" which makes for a much more pleasant session once you meet in person.  BELIEVE ME!

The lady who runs the board is (IMO) one of the most business savvy individual's in this business HANDS DOWN!  She is a former provider who has run Private Connections for years and she is highly respected in the hobby community by provider AND hobbyist.  She asks a few simple questions, and shazaam...your verified and can start playing to your hearts content!  Your personal information is NEVER revealed and NEVER compromised!!  A one time sign up fee of $50 ( think) and you can send a MO/Check/CC/prepaid CC...whatever  There are several options for payment to what makes you more comfortable.

I highly recommend P411.  You will be amazed as how much easier it will be to book an appointment with a provider using this tool!  And believe me, there are more providers who gladly accept P411 as verification!

Good luck!!
