I think, or at least I hope, he was speaking of his travels, pre TER.

I've seen well over a thousand providers, and I would only do that as a last resort, and probably not even then. Even if you don't carry a laptop, you can always find a computer nowadays, even in the sticks.

How are in advance should I contact the agency?

I know who I want to see, and want to make sure we can connect on my trip, but I'm not sure how far out I should contact the agency....

TIA

That's a bit of a crap shoot. Even ladies who work through agencies pretty much decide when they are going to work.  You could try and book a week or more out but there is no guarantee that she will be available that day.  Many agencies won't book more than a day or two out for just that reason.  It's always a good idea to have a plan B if you are looking for company on the road. Either a few girls from the same or different agencies or an possible indie option that you may have made preliminary contact with.

I'd call an agency out of the phone book, pot luck, and they'd have someone over in about an hour or maybe two.

Always had good luck too, only one ripoff in maybe two dozen calls I made.

so much for the importance of buying VIP and only selecting well-reviewed providers!!

Then again, all newbies should keep in mind mrfisher's vast experience and extra-tingly spider sense about these things. Newbies should not follow this method until you become seasoned professionals. And even then, its still a pretty big risk.

Look at it this way, that one rip off experience would have paid for over two years of TER dues.

that the ones who can least afford the loss of their hobbying $$$ are the ones too cheap to spend a paltry twenty bucks on a VIP membership

Oh well, you can lead a horse to water, but.....

When I worked for an agency, I booked weeks and even months in advance. I committed to taking the appointment so I knew that I was working that day. I still get early overnight bookings, (for example his birthday) and he will contact me very early. Do have a plan B in case of anything.

you will need to contact the agency about 48 hours in advance.  Be sure to have the names of multiple ladies in case your first choice is unavailable.

I'm traveling to Phoenix....

I have two agencies, with one specific lady in mind from each.

I tentatively will have three nights available on the trip, so I'll have a couple of chances for each.

Backup plan:  My ATF lives there, (overnite planned, and I could always see her again) and I will have a couple of indies selected just in case.

Thanks again....
