Like the old phrase from a movie "you can not handle the truth" GQ that a small valley here in SF has been recognized around that has the most impact in changing the cultures and mentality of the world, the cradle of innovation. GQ is quick to point out and made their editorial judgement that all that is happening here in the Bay Area is a mythical phenomena and denying the reality of it all. Heck I can make a travel guide and send it to GQ editors but they're probably ignore me. Examples: Ahhh the Bay Area. Not only we have the massive influx of the new generations of technologies here, the land of new VC's, new cultures and laws of the land also are being generated here about equality of human kind and diversity, we have the greatest food and the wine industry which also leading the way from Napa, Sonoma and been kicking ass around the world for decades now, not to mention about our farmland that's feeding the world, from our dairy, cheese, ice cream, nuts, chocolates, noodles and such no one comes close. We have the most picturesque Golden Gate Bridge around the planet, our champions professional sports teams are dynasty and being envied, the most recognizable island Alcatraz, Starwars Skywalker Ranch, Standford University that can stand toe to toe against any Ivy League schools and the gateway to the Pacific. And wherever you maybe when you visit the Bay Area you will always and always leave your heart in SF... there you go GQ in your face, just for a stinger..

Does anyone really buying these kind of article just another kind of up selling, a marketing device to draw attention to the magazine itself IMHO because for a couple of years now, GQ's circulations has significantly drop to a low point. I believed more that hundreds of thousand of subscribers has cancelled and the only purpose of this article is advertising to create a brand awareness again to sell products associated with them, driven by a tough competition in the industry to always paint themselves in the most favorable way, but somewhat exaggerated and overrated? and in reality they don't really have enough sources to validate their study. It's all speculations, predictions which sometimes the media is really good at, knowing the are protected and hide behind the First Amendment. And BTW currently came out with a cover which is controversial like Amy Schumer to gain more attention again.. That's my take on this....

It is most unfortunate to read about the jealousy GQ has for the San Francisco Bay Area. Let's face it. It doesn't happen anymore in towns like LA, Chicago , New York etc. When San Francisco sneezes the rest of America catches a cold. It is most unfortunate that when people from out of town visit San Francisco we have to talk slow and use hand signals. Hell, sometimes we have to use smoke signals to communicate with out of town people. Sad!!

Overall, just one man's bitter opinion. He probably has never been to SF, which IS currently the epicenter of employment and innovation in the US and in the world. I am sure he only believed a small percentage of the words he was writing.

Have you ever met a coder who was collecting unemployment? Is anyone pining for the days of having to call for food and then walk or drive to pick it up (especially in the winter in Brooklyn which is where the writer is from)? Are 70 year old women (or men!) typically the leaders of innovation and invention in industry everywhere else in the world except the Valley? Are college degrees a guarantee of success or even intelligence or just of a huge debt to a major bank? How long is the list of high tech solutions that are saving the world? Let's start with medical instruments and prosthetic limbs printed with 3D printers and go from there...

I love SF...the greatest city in the world!! :)

Love,
Tabitha

Standford University is the origin of the now advance Stem Cell research that maybe someday will illuminate some of the illness of the planet. The NASA Research Center at Moffett Field is the countries National Advisory for Aeronautics and Space Explorations. Livermore Research Laboratories which is the major THINK TANK of the country. And when it comes to economy SF is the lowest unemployment percentage in the country. How about that GQ...Go Giants, Niners, Warriors, Raiders, Sharks, Ace and the Quakes...

...of the country?!  ;)

And don't forget the music! My God, I have great love for this area for the so many great bands and artists it has spawned over the years and for it being the genesis of the counter culture / free love movement! I can fully understand and admire your Bay Area / Silicon Valley chauvinism.
