hello, this is redhotflower.
Hope you guys are having great time during this memorial day weekend.
I was just wondering if there is any good hiking places around here. Weather is too nice to stay home and I would love to go hike.
Please let me know if there is any.
Thx!

I would recommend taking the George Washington trail from Roosevelt Island to Mt Vernon.  Might be a little soggy at times today, but it is a nice walk along the Potomac.

I like to visit Roosevelt Island and the trails are well maintained.

Happy Memorial Day - Remember their sacrifice.

Thank you for your advise, I have never been to George Washington trail, I will def. try this trail. I ended up just going to near by small park in Centerville with my dog and had a good time.
Maybe this upcoming weekend, I will try tis trail. Thank you again.

close in hikes like great falls and scot's run and river bend park are good but crowded on weekends. nice if you can go on weekday. there are a bunch at the edge of the appalachians - about an hour drive west. hikes along skyline drive. best known is "old rag" outside sperryville which is nice but again go on a weekday.

OMG this sounds really nice! This places sounds very good to me! I am pretty much new to the area so your advise is great for me. I would love to go and hike these places especially weather are nicer these days. Thank you again for your input.

It is probably too late for today but I like hiking the Virginia mountains. Old Rag is more difficult in Madison County but an easier hike is Signal Knob near Strasburg.

There are a lot more hiking trails in the Shenandoah National Park. Just google.

This is great!! I had no idea there are so many good hiking places around here! I love hiking on my off days and this will def. help. Thank you so much!

I'd definitely go with the Great Falls/Scotts Preserve trails. They are crowded but I've never not found parking, and you won't into a lot of issues with rain muddying up the trails. Also if you don't hike a lot, it's a pretty easy hike that you can do for one mile or several miles. It's like a spiders web of trails and you can make your hike as long or as short as you want. I would recommend taking a photo of the map with your cell phone so you don't get lost.

Rock Creek Park is full of good trails, long or short, scenic, not too crowded, point to point or roundabout, safe on weekends, etc.  Off Beach Drive.  Google various options, and here are a couple:   http://dc.curbed.com/2014/7/17/10071864/hiking-in-rock-creek-park.

If it's too late for today, keep Rock Creek Park in mind -- I've used it hundreds of times, lieterally.

Thank you for your recommendation! I never been to Rock Creek Park before and I would love to go for my next hiking trip. I like places with good scenic trail with various choices for a hike!
Thank you again ^^

Great Falls National Park, Maryland has great hiking trails go over near cascading water falls to nice view off the Potomac River Great Falls, or hike the Canal Path toward MacArthur Blvd and take a rest o er lunch at the Old Anglers Inn Restaurant; Then hike back to Great Falls Park. Plenty of adequate parking at the park.

This is great. I have not been to Great falls before but this sounds like a great plan for me. There is a good restaurant along the way too? that is even better. I will def. try this trail for my next hiking trip. Thank you for your kind advise, this really helps.

Fort Hunt Park is a nice area to hike and picnic. The drive there down GW Parkway is very pleasant. https://www.nps.gov/gwmp/planyourvisit/forthunt.htm

This place looks great and I would love to go! It is also not too far from me so I will def. try this place when I get a chance!
Thank you so much for your input.

If you want something close go the Fountainhead Park in southern Fairfax County.  They have a trail that goes over 15 miles
