I thought the Maryland board was for Baltimore and such.
Bethesda is like seven miles from Georgetown.
?????

Without mentioning where I am exactly, someone please tell me when did Whiteflint become Bethesda?  Or more correctly,  North Bethesda?  Wth?

The board is totally up to you.

White Flint is an area in Montgomery County that is along the Rockville Pike 355. It is north of 270 so yes it is North Bethesda.

Is this according to hotel booking sites?

Some businesses in Rockville call themselves North Bethesda for the perceived status. Kind of like a store in Manhattan with a side door on Fifth Avenue using that in its address.

Notth Bethesda, North Potomac, whoever decided that Rockville would be an attractive name for a city?

Agreed. I never thought Bethesda was north of NIH.  BTW -  White Flint is a pile of rocks at the moment ;)

WhiteFlint is a neighborhood, N Bethesda is a neighborhood. Bethesda is a city. Rockville is a city.
Whiteflint has been forgotten since the mall emptied, and people are using North Bethesda since the mall is no longer a reliable landmark.

Go by zipcode. If the second to last is a 1, it's bethesda. If it's a 5, rockville.

Just think of it as similar to how we determine areas in DC, or New York.

Neighborhoods are designations. I know, controversy, but who can comment on how we name these areas? Historians, probably.

Here is a link detailing recent and historic-ish naming.

And for those interested in some casual convo factoids, a link about White Flint below.

As they develop the area up there, they are trying to fold it all into a single upscale area. There's nothing wrong with  Rockville, but Bethesda and White Flint have more cache. But White Flint isn't really anything but a mall that has been torn down. So they are trying to wrap it all up together.

What used to be Bethesda, White Flint, Rockville and Potomac is becoming Bethesda, North Bethesda, Potomac and North Potomac or some damn thing.

It DOES get confusing.
