I've only seen a few who said they were retiring, and did. Most others just disappear. I've know a couple who just disappeared. They met there financial and personal goals and have never looked back or regretted it.

Announcing retirement is first, marketing . They may want to retire, but also want to go out with a bang, financially. Most who announce retirement will return, the $ is too good, even if they are not or were not busy.

So few of us manage our retirement plans. You quit when you can't take it any more, or you take a break and gather your thoughts, and go back to work, semi retired, like me.

Seen a few recent announcements of retirements here, but do you guys think providers really retire?

I have been in the hobby for over a decade and seen at least half a dozen so called retirement announcements and somehow weeks/months later they have come back either under different name or even as the same name ..

How many retirees have you seen come out of retirements?

the money is fantastic and the life is fun... and the men?  Yummmm....who could stay away? I could never live the lifestyle I do now with what I make in my real job.

is that there is really something sexy in every kind and age of lady...and my openness as a human being has so expanded in this lifestyle.  Hard to give up the money for sure, but also hard to abandon the journey of exploring and expanding the spirit.

Many do. The job has an expiration date as you age no matter what ladies say. You can't be 90 and still doing this job since it's taxing on the body, less men will see you as the years go on, or ladies have a private group of select friends they see. Some come back because a normal job wasn't the money that fit their lifestyle or their long term sugar daddy bailed on them. I myself attempted to retire because of a crazy stalker customers actions in my personal life at one point in the past 2 years. Everyone has their reasons lol. I do plan on retiring in the next year though cuz mama is getting tired lol.

I do know one provider that retired. Got some exclusive job and there was no way she could continue to provide and do her job.

There are some lifers who will do this until they are 60 (some even longer). I wouldn't recommend that for anyone, this should be an industry to get you to where you want to be. There's some I look at that I'm thinking damn you are STILL HERE and have been "26" for 20 years lol !!??? Yes there are plenty who do this while they are going to college or to get out of debt, then they move on.

It's been years since she retired and she now works for healthcare and she isn't making much money at all. She had just decided it was time to hang up the garters. She also didn't announce any retirement, she just left. I think that is the better route, but some want to use it as a marketing tool and it does help. I recall one provider who every six months was retiring. ;-) This is a great business and lucrative, and sometimes it's just time to go. For many reasons. It seems to be a running joke or roll of the eye to many when they read the " I am retiring " posts, but for some it truly is a goodbye. Life has a way though of pulling you back in to the hobby/provider world. It's funny and unpredictable like that.

The  stark reality is that most companions are not investment savvy or financially  literate and don't understand compound interest or how financial markets work.
The great majority  as supported by research data end their career in the exact position or even worse off financially  than they were prior to becoming a companion.
When a  companion's hourly rate is greater than that of the president of the United States there is no excuse to not save and invest. When the priority becomes $2,000 shoes and $4,000 handbags  retiring  seem only a pipe dream, hence they return to support the lifestyle they have so aptly become accustomed and  without any long term plans.

General Douglas MacArthur said "Old Soldiers never Die They just Fade away"

I recently retired because I met a super cool (at the time) civie and wanted to be monogamous. The wheels came off the wagon shortly thereafter. Sadly just about all of my references had moved on during these two years of inactivity. Thankfully, one was still active and agreed to see me. Am I so glad she did. In one session I got more affection ,passion and pleasure  than in over two years of vanilla sex dating with an inhibited, insecure, selfish,  control freak.  I can see now why so many married men hobby.

OK, I just had to get that out of the way. I feel better now. Retirement is OVER!

I disappeared for around 4 years but I never posted anything about retirement. I just left for a while...went back to school, fell in love, traveled a little and then out of love, bored with real life and here I am! Lol

Looking back at my reviews, I would say most do move on. There have been a few that came back after an extended break but most have moved on.

I love Pacino's line from Godfather III. It can be applied to some providers who just can't completely leave the biz:

Just when I thought I was out they pull me back in

Some ladies truly do this purely for a specific reason, have personal (financial) goals, etc. Once these goals are met, they leave to never look back.

I remain in contact with 3 of them and all 3 are very successful in their current situations and would not even consider dipping a toe back in the waters here. I helped one of them write and re-write her resume a few times and she now is doing very well working for a DOD contractor, another one realized her dream of opening a catering business and is now very successful (so much so that 2 years ago, she bought a great big house) and the other one has become a mom twice over and is very happy in her life as a mom and wife.

Unfortunately, I also know many ladies who, as Sidney Starr pointed out, use a pending retirement as a marketing tool and a few others whose plans didn't work out as expected and they find themselves back here. I grant you that some are abusing this "here now, gone tomorrow" scenario.

Since we here are not always privy to all the details of a lady's situation, we should not criticize, but rather simply enjoy them while they're here, if they're your type of course.
