This is MIA .... I am a provider in the DMV;however, I used to live in the west coast... And I have a question for east coast people:

I would like to know if it's just a east coast thing vs west coast.... Are tattoos viewed differently here on the east coast than the west?

I've noticed that the majority of tattoos in this area (I'm hugely generalizing) are viewed as not being aesthetically pleasing and are viewed as being of a lower social status . This can be for a couple reasons 1) the artist wasn't very experienced therefore the quality of the art is poor. 2) the people, mostly those who  don't have tattoos or ones who view them negatively, judge people who do have them. 3) the people judging them reduce people who wear tattoos  as being hoodlums, ghetto, or low class.

My point being... That the general social implication of having tattoos is different here on the east coast than the west coast.

It may be because they are not seen as art either because their construction is poor or because the kinds of people who get them here on the east coast are usually of a lower social status. It seems their social connotation is negative around places such as the east coast.

Consequently .. I've noticed a lot of people mentioning tattoos in a negative way in reviews or just in general. My question being...is this the overall sentiment people have on the east coast? My personal experience has been that on the east coast people view tattoos negatively.

Is this right?Should  tattoos and the people who wear them be considered negatively? Even if their artistic value is great and well crafted?

When I lived in the west coast people who wore tattoos were elevated to its own status and wearing them
Inadvertently made the person part of a growing sub culture ... Which was considered edgy, artistic, sexy and part of a scene...(for example SUICIDE GIRLS)

Are girls with tattoos sexy to you if done correctly and placed sexy ??? If not is that a east coast thing???

that will always be subjective, of course. Just like many things, what turns some people on will turn others off.

I spent over twenty years in the military where they were very common and I have no prejudice against them.

But, anyone getting offensive/overly aggressive tattoos that are generally visible (hands, face, etc) are showing a lack of good judgement, though.

DMV in general is a conservative town. It is still a "southern town" - keep in mind there is a large population of folks that are transitory factor that in too.

Growing up in Portland, tattoos and those with them were definitely seen as cool.
I got my first one way earlier than the rules posted in the shop said I could.
Might have even been the law at the time too...I can't remember.
Nevertheless, I batted my eyes at the tattoo artist, showed him a little thigh, and he inked me up.

I spent a lot of time around artists, poets, writers, & even a couple of bands some of you might recognize.
Even then, many of us had or talked about pursuing advanced degrees.
Tattoos weren't a completely blue collar thing.
We all had ink.

Now, when I was in L.A., the scene was indeed a little edgier, even harsher.
I don't want to say more felonious, but...

I like my tattoos.  They suit me.
I love to talk about them.
And there's a story behind each one.

Body ink is definitely not for everybody.
But then again, neither are white shoes and yellow pants.

P.S.  I actually modeled for Suicide Girls once.  It was fun

Everyone has his/her own opinions.  For me, tats are, at best, neutral.  One or two small and discreetly located tats don't make much of a difference.  Large tats for me, however, are a turn-off.  In my old school opinion, they scream low class, which is very unsexy to me.

i think this is the sentiment for older people like 40 plus...because when you were young only ghetto trashy people had tattoos....
now they are artistic.....tattoos b the right artist can run over 1000 $$ defiantly not low class.....

i guess it is a preference .......I PERSONALLY think fake tits are low class and trashy more than tattoos....but then again what do i know.....im jjust a girl

I'm in the over 40 category.  I think you are probably right about when we grew up.

Some of the artwork is, in fact, at least interesting, and some of it is nice.  But I'm not sure the human body is the best canvas.

This seems like one of those situations where less can be more.  One small discreet tat may look nice.  That doesn't mean that two are better.  There is some optimum level.  A splash of perfume is nice.  An entire bottle is suffocating.  Five-inch heels may be sexier than three-inch heels, but 12-inch platforms are not sexy.

Beyond the appearance, some seemingly practical downsides to tats:  in the early years, there was an HIV risk; they appear to be painful; they can be expensive; they are permanent and you may change your mind; they get distorted as the body stretches and sags.

If they were temporary and inexpensive, like the henna tats or face painting for an athletic event, they could be fun, but they are not.

Again, it's personal taste.  To each his own; I prefer my women with few or none.

That's great I love suicide girls and am actually trying to model for them now through their application process... Any pointers??

Goes a lot deeper than skin ink IMHO.

Sexiness is an intangible.  It can't be bought.  It's how a woman...damn...I can't even describe it.

Tattoos, lingerie, hair, tall, short, BBW, petite...all packages can contain it.  It's like soul, you either have or you don't.  Aretha Franklin is sexy!

Honesty, truth, transparency, openness, personal and sexual awareness, charity, freedom, adventure, rational fearlessness...are all sexy.

I'm raising a glass to ALL the sexy ladies

Chin, chin...clink.

I raise my glass to you as well.

And obviously I agree. To me, sexiness isn't something I can clearly define. Generally, the more I get to know a person, the sexier they are to me. I'm not really even attracted to women, but there have been many who've left me aghast at just how sexy they are...the way she carries herself for the most part. Needless to say, I don't really have a "type" when it comes to looks, which I think opens up all sorts of possibilities!

Personality and attitude, always

Can't agree more.  Even when it comes to the proverbial question "...what/who is your type of women...?"  I can't box myself into a corner like that.  I'm not a tattoo guy. I would not get one myself; I would not require/suggest my girl get one.  But I've been with and met ladies who are sexy as hell with tattoos; Veronica being one of them.  I've met and been with ladies who have tattoos and they were not sexy at all.

My general taste/s are ladies with "athletic" bodies and shapes.  But I've met and been with so-called "skinny" ladies and they were hot as shyt and got my motor running non-stop.  I've met and been with ladies who are "athletic" types and did nothing for me.

So, IMHO, sexy is more an intrinsic; a whole package thingy.  So whether the lady has tats or not; is athletic or not.

The sexy part comes in all forms, shapes, sizes and colors....but what I like about em most is that their real good lovers.......Whoodini

...on the same factors you mentioned above. It took months for me to find an artist to do my first tattoo, which I think turned out perfectly and fits my curves in just the way I had in mind. However, mine are hidden for the most part, mostly because I haven't come up with a concept I think would do well on my not so hidden parts.

Like many things in life, unfortunately I think tattoos are still a bit of an acquired taste, though I've had gentlemen from all walks of life compliment mine. I do openly state that I have a few, just because I know not all gentlemen are attracted to ladies with body art, and no one wants an unwelcome surprise.

If you walked into a Country Club in the DMV (e.g. Congressional, etc.), with visible tattoos, you would definitely be labelled negatively.  Just because people are polite, doesn't mean they are nice.  They will be talking about you, and not in a nice way.

Are tattoos sexy?  If done right and on the right person, yes.  Barbwire on the biceps screams you're old and the tattoos are dated and you fit a certain socioeconomic class.  Little butterfly on the ankle, or heart on the neck seen only when your hair is pulled-up, acceptable.

Having spent a good amount of time in the Pacific Northwest, I would agree with above comments.  Totally different, and perfectly acceptable.  There really is no 'class' system per say.  In fact, I would argue if you are North East "rich" in Portland, you would be looked down upon by pretty much everybody else as being a North East snob that should go home.

As a client, a well done tattoo can add to the session as well as perfect skin with no tattoos. A particularly memorable session was with an asian girl with a very large colorful dragon tattoo that wrapped from her shoulder, down her side and across her back - on perfect alabaster skin.  It was her only tattoo...HOT!

In general, I would agree that in the DMV, though, bad, large, obvious, tattoos put you in a certain class.

Good question.

Not so sexy on not-so-sexy people. They neither make nor break the sexiness of a person.

All very good answers.... I guess I am bias because I have tattoos and I love them... I feel that they make me different and more beautiful... I definitely use to not like the way I looked although people would consider me beautiful I never really saw it ... In those days I tried very hard to look a certain way polo shirts sperrys (I went to private catholic school) and I always felt like I was trying to hard or trying to be something that I wasn't ... I felt lost and didn't really like who I was.

It wasn't u til I started doing body modification that I began to like what I looked like ... It was like I went to the complete polar opposite getting tattoos ( big but very sexy) and dermal piercings and even my dimples I'm thinking of getting pierced.
Once I started embracing that style I felt like myself and felt beautiful... So even if clients don't like it it makes me feel good and complete.

What I want to know if your only spending an hour or two with a lady ... Should her body art matter ? I mean it's not like you are married and have to see each other forever... My point being ... Wouldn't you want to explore the differences and nuances different people have ... Or are you just looking for the same tits and ass you can get anywhere????

It is not easy to find a lady without any tatoos. I do have to admit that finding someone who has not had any ink has a certain appeal.

That being said, I do also find some tatoos very sexy. It really depends on the nature of the tatoo, the placement of that tatoo and the body which it is placed upon. If a woman has body issues already, adding ink can really compound the problem. On the flip side well done tatoos can really enhance an already sexy body.

I don't think there is a cut and dry answer; however, I would agree that tatoos are viewed differently on the east coast vs the west coast.

Excellent points, Charlie.

Call me prejudiced, but there is nothing more off-putting to me than attempting doggie while staring at a bird of paradise roughly the size of Texas on my new friend's back.  It says "trailer park" in so many ways.

I would rather see something tasteful almost anywhere else.

If someone has a visible tat and interviews with a Fortune 500 company, the chances of being hired are much lower.  There are a few exceptions, possibly Apple and other tech companies.  On Wall Street, it's best to look straight-laced.

I'm glad you are happy with how you look.  A positive self-image is important.

I won't be around in 50 years, but I wonder how different things will be.  Will tats be a fad that has run its course?  Will everyone have one or more?  Will it be much like today?

However, the tattoo culture seems to have some sort of belief that is is artistic to desecrate ones flesh for the fun of it. Back home we get plenty of Haoles and Haole Wahine who pay premium prices for Polynesian sleeve tattoos. No, bieng an Anglo with an Island tattoo does not make you cool, or accepted. You are looked at as a silly wannabee with a low sense of self esteem. Now on to girls getting all inked up. That is nothing more than a gimmick that will pass just as fast as it started. Just wait until the Generation X and Y start to age.

The faded ink Blotches that were the Grim Reaper on the deltoid of the Billy-Badass wananbees will serve as nothing more than an embarrassment. That will pail in comparison to the ugly smeared tribal ink stain over a middle aged woman's dimpley loose ass. No two piece bikini, and no showing off the midriff ink smears or the sorority chick angel wings on a 50 year old neurotic hag.

I am sure that there are some men in this hobby that don't mind or even like the ink. With that said, if the girl is cute the ink and excessive piercings wont make her any cuter or more desirable. All it will do is lessen the client base by eliminating us who don't fancy the ink.

m mom's 65 and her ass looks better than mine...so i dont know about hawaii....but latinas age well .....maybe its all the spam

Actually most of the stereotype of being overweight is a myth. Most of the Hawaiians that I know are very fit. The Samoans tend to be overweight but that is a stereotype also. Most polynesian women I know tend to be very active and athletic. As far as Latinas aging well, maybe in the face but according to the US govt. Latinas tend to be overweight. Here are the stats:http://womenshealth.gov/minority-health/latinas/obesity.html

I'm in my late 20's and people are like why don't I have any tats when dealing with the average person (but maybe that's low-key racism sometimes), lol. I thought earrings were finally acceptable like puff daddy in a suit once i got em 10yrs ago or so and have no problem wearing studs in a professional setting. Hell, i remember when a phrase like "Holla" was not professional and business people used "touch-base"

you see a couple of tramps stamps on college campuses....but it still has a social/educational stigma to it. An Average public university like University of Maryland doesn't even have a bunch of highly tatted up students walking around
