I'll be visiting your beautiful city in the next few weeks for the very first time! Where are some nice areas to visit? I love the outdoors! Thanks in advance!

definitely the monuments (all of them) - the backside of the Lincoln Memorial is a great "sitting" spot
National Gallery
Arlington National Cemetery
Dupont Circle area for little coffee houses and restaurants
Capital Hill (architecture and people watching is fantastic)
Capitol Building - must tour
Georgetown
Kennedy Center - maybe see a show

The list goes on and on, get online to Trip Advisor - you will be more than busy, and very entertained with all the great things to do! Have a wonderful time, this one of my favorite cities by far (SF, Chicago,Las Vegas)

Up vote for Great Falls. Try the Billy Goat trail for a little challenge.

Yes too on the Billy Goat Trail in Great Falls Park. It is on the Maryland side of the Potomac and is part of the Chesapeake of Ohio Canal Park so take your National Park pass if you have one. The view over the Potomac Gorge and the birds (you will definitely see herons and hawks and quite possibly a bald eagle) are great.

You would probably need a car to get there, or an interesting date with someone who wants to do that with you and vice versa in addition to indoor time.  It is fun, but it is also aptly named. You should wear jeans or something else to protect your knees because it is a long scramble over boulders, and also wear shoes that you don't mind getting some mud and dirt on. It isn't too difficult; my kids did it at 5 and 6 although they needed the occasional push up from behind when they were small

Everyone! Sounds like I will definitely enjoy my stay with all of the fun places to venture! And wonderful people to meet!!!!

You may also want to check out the United States Botanic Garden, which is right on the mall, and a few minutes walking distance from the Capitol building. It's a really fun, interesting place to hang out and very easy to get to..
