Clearly it was more than the "righties" as obviously almost all of the Dems also voted to override the veto.

Your partisanship is even more dominant than your stupidity.

...especially in an election year, bad laws are enacted.  Remember the Patriot Act and the vote to go to war with Iraq?  Now we have another one -  the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorists Act which allows families of 9/11 victims to sue Saudi Arabia.  Obama's veto of the bill was overridden by the Senate 97-1 and by the House 348-77.

Actually, we got a twofer with this law; another law was passed at the same time - the Law of Unintended Consequences.  This could open up a Pandora's box of lawsuits against the U.S. which could threaten our sovereign immunity.

Hillary Clinton now regrets having voted for the Iraq War as I'm sure many of the other 28 Democrats and 48 Republicans who voted for it also do.  We'll see how many of the For God and Country political hacks who voted for the law today feel about it in 10-20 years.

I know I'm not one for Boolean searches, preferring the Op-Ed style of expressing an opinion and garnering occasional faint praise and frequent mockery. That's cool, I've survived everything thrown at me so far.

But this time, let the facts speak for themselves.

Just a few tidbits you should review and familiarize yourself with before you make such a blanket statement again.

Granted, these articles are not necessarily germane to the specific issue of the 9/11 bill, but I believe they do give an inkling as to which way the wind really blows here.

I'm sure I could offer more, but this is enough for the serious minded.

Me personally, I thought your comment was somewhat incendiary and beneath your usual œuvre.

The comment is in bad taste, but should such an event occur in our courts there WILL, I'm sure, be the cry, "That wasn't the point of passing this bill!"

And of course it wasn't. Obama has focused on the possibility of lawsuits by citizens or subjects of other countries suing the U.S. Government for alleged terrorist acts in their countries. What I'm saying, albeit distastefully, is that there is also a very probable chance that the provisions of this bill will allow for Americans to sue our closet allies for allegations having nothing to do with 911.

It might have in better taste, these days, to suggest that an Irish American might sue Great Britain over some atrocity committed during the Struggles against North Ireland Catholics. Either example would embarrass our country, could cause a serious riff, and would, as my post suggested, cause the Senators and Congressmen to regret the passing of the bill.

and I completely agree with you, BPS AND Obama. This was another VERY bad law. It was yet another "feel good" law, to make stupid people think Congress is doing "something" but the unintended consequences may even be worse than The Patriot Act.

I can believe "some" members of Congress were stupid enough to vote for this, the fact it was almost unanimous is mind boggling.

...It probably had nothing to do with the fact that he represents NY and is up for re-election this year.

...

I bet you thought I was serious.

Chuck disappointed me on this one believe it or not.
I completely understand the sentiment and emotional issues...
but this is the wrong way to do it for all the reasons stated.

Congress has jumped the Shark.
