Actually, since this is an .asp based site, the page is refreshing each time, which causes the db to fire, which makes your browser think it is a new page, thus sending you back to the top of the page.

It's a funciton of IE and the other broswers, you can change the funtionality in your browser by looking for the option of how often to refresh the page.

Why is it that when I am perusing the discussions areas and I open up a post that when I choose the Back to Forum button it takes me back to the beginning of the forum and not to the same place where I opened the post? This is really annoying.

I've tried this on PC's running Windows 2000 and XP and on Macs running OS X. I've used IE and Safari. I've played around with a bunch of options in the preferences and nothing works. The odd thing is that every once in a while it DOES take me back to where I opened a post but it is extremely rare.

Staff, is this something that can be programmed into your website? I'm sure it can be - just some coding that needs to be tweaked a bit.

Why don't you just use the back button from the browser?
I use IE and it works fine.

Because when I click and hold on the back button to choose which page I want to go back to (I could be buried way deep in a thread) all it says is TER Discussion Board for each post. It is difficult to figure out which is the main discussions page. The Back to Forum button would be a much simpler way of accomplishing this.

I agree that navigation out of (especially) a long discussion thread is difficult. The fact that all of the options using the Back Button have the same Header (especially) on the revised site make for a bit of guess work.

Since the Program-DataBase-Server interface still seems to have speed issues this would be most useful.

I find the easiest way is using a five button wheel mouse.  The buttons on the right/left move the pages forward/backward.  I can go back without taking my hand off the mouse or even moving the pointer up to the back button on the browser.

I find it annoying when I leave home and don't have my mouse.  It's hard to get use to mice that don't have the extra buttons.

But if you are buried deep in a thread you want a simple way to go back to the main discussion at the same location you left off.

I use the same method I described.  Even if I'm 20 messages deep in a thread, I'm back to the main discussion page, where I left off, within a few seconds.  The button on the mouse responds very quickly to multiple clicks.

I'd rather have the TER programmers make a change to their site. Other sites have this feature working so I know it can be done.
