ND the hotel chains have invested a lot in their revenue management systems.

I have never seen the hotel prices like this!  I even saw a motel 6 going for 450 per night!? How on earth are ladies affording to tour right now?  I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out where to stay, or what's even still available, for my upcoming trip this next week!
would guys be shocked if ladies prices went up in conjunction with the higher hotel rates?

Cheers (or at least trying yo stay cheerful)

Many of us book our hotels in advance of course.  So ideally we get a decent rate.  That said, I do expect to pay $400-500 per night for a room in DC generally.  But not for a Motel 6!  That's kinda crazy.

My DC rates are already some of my highest in the country.  The hotel rates definitely have to do with why!  :)

I suggest to try booking your hotels 4-6 weeks out when you first set your tour dates for the best pricing.

I know many ladies also stay in other areas outside of DC proper such as Tyson's Corner, Arlington, etc., and mention that those areas have better rates.

Happy hotel hunting!  ;)

...that was valid at least twice as much in real time as what it was when I booked it FOUR WEEKS ago.

Location is important, and DC is pricey. Advanced planning is not just a good idea, its necessary (which is why I adore all my pre-booking clientele).

Im gold in couple... but still get a high rate );

I would never disagree with anyone on what they say hotel prices are in DC or Tysons but I stay at some very nice hotels in DC and Tysons on a regular basis and thank the good Lord I never have come close to paying $400-500 a day. Whew!! too much money!!

jhbaxter,
the place that you stay has good rates, I agree!

Catalina,
Now how would you know where I stay. Just kidding honey!

When  I tour  DC/VA area,  my rates are slightly higher. The hotels will cost your there but it is worth the experience because I always require advance bookings. Paying 450 for Motel 6 or a lower grade hotel is definitely insane. There are a couple of websites out there that are 4 star quality and a lot cheaper. I think sometimes the timing of the tour could make things a lot more expensive too.

always a hit or miss

Jetsetter is my favorite. They currently have rooms available at several DC hotels starting at $154 per night. Cheaptickets is useful especially if you're combining more than one rental, ex. hotel and vehicle.
Good Luck!!

Hotel costs are elevated for the various reasons noted.  I was at Fashion Centre at Pentagon City last night.  There must have been 500 teenagers leaving on buses back to their hotels.  I could barely get into the place.

Buddies of mine who were looking for hotels this week reported rates that start in the $400-$600 range in D.C., New York, and Chicago.  I save up hotel points and use them when the rates get this high.

the only hotels that are available are the two star ones,  The city is practically sold out
