Oddly, I suspect Big Food would rather keep the FDA.

Food processing is pretty competitive. And food companies really don't want to outright kill their customers, at least not in any way traceable in short order. The FDA keeps the balance in place, and the bigger the company the easier it is to meet FDA regulations. So playing be the rules allows them to set the ruled for themselves and their competitors. The sometimes push back on FDA regulations if they feel things are getting to ridged, but they would rather have the FDA than whatever maverick watchdogs that would rush in to take its place.

I think maybe the supplement producers would like to get rid of the FDA, but General Mills? Pillsbury? Del Nonte? I strongly doubt it.

I got a feeling that here again Trump is barking at a boogeyman who is only a figment of his supporters imagination.

...business isn't bogged down by the "FDA Food Police" which prevents them from being more profitable.  Oh wait, Big Food doesn't care about shareholder profits; they only care about providing nutritious healthy food, right?  Let them do whatever they want, right?  The marketplace will take care of the bad actors...maybe...after they kill hundreds of people (possibly YOUR children) with contaminated food.  Hey, that's too bad, but that's the price you pay for having unfettered capitalism.  Don't worry - you'll have a few extra kids as an insurance policy when Trump's Supreme Court outlaws abortion.

Trump's right - the U.S. is getting killed by China because we have a lot more regulations than they do.  Instead of getting killed by China, we should deregulate the food industry.  Then we wouldn't be getting killed by China; we'd be getting killed by our own food industry.

Quite the conundrum for TER stock market watchers - would they rather have their ConAgra stock go up or their kids be safe?
