There are good reasons to have a separate phone

An additional reason you may want a separate phone is if a provider/agency you have used gets busted.  An anonymous phone means that it is nearly impossible to track you down and certainly not worth the time for the DA's office.

The recent events with Sen. Vitter and the DC Madam's phone list is a good example.  While it may not be an issue in your life today, who knows where you'll be 5 years from now.  You don't need that kind of stuff coming back to haunt you whether it is with marriage, adoption, security clearances, etc.

It is also easy to ditch the phone and number if someone flakes out on you and starts harassing you.

No one asked for any info when I bought my 7-11 pre-paid phone.

but when i went to pay, but cashier asked for my personal information.... name... address.   my friend was there with me so i didn't lie to the guy on the spot.

should i get a different phone?

Pardon me for possibly being sarcastic; but I've noted questions by you on numerous boards that scream "paranoid of everything".
You gotta’ give your name, address and credit card # if you want to rent DVDs.

Guess what? your new cell phone has GPS location technology built in so that Big Brother can always find you; but relax 'cause Big Brother doesn't care to locate you if you're only getting some tail.
The 'anonymity' of the trac phone is you don't get a bill sent to your home every month with all the incoming and out going calls listed. Just like a Skee-ball center doesn't trace or keep invasive records of the dimes you feed into the machines.

sorry, i thought the purpose of a payphone was that other people can't track you rather than the bill issue, because i read somewhere that someone said all hobbists should get a separate phone...  if that is not the case please excuse me.

i don't care what's on my bill really because i pay my own bill and nobody cares what i do with my phone.  i suppose that means i didn't need a trac phone =
and i am not really paranoid per se, i just want to know how things work before i dive right in.   i feel like i am almost ready.

try those

You can buy them at walmarts, targets etc.. Very in expensive.. Pick a plan on line.. etc and so on..
dont have to give personal info.

You can go to a different store. I got tracfone for a friend at CVS and there was no questions asked. You can beat the price of buying the tracfone.

I post this about the phone I use. Speakout. It more expensive initially.

Some stores take that information so they can send junk mail and sell the info.  to mail lists so you get more junk mail .....postal mail  ...not email...unless you gave them that info too.

you can refuse to give a them the information and they must sell the item to you.

If the clerk at the register gives you a hard time about it you can give them a number like 202-555-1212.
address....1600 Pennsylvania Ave Washington, DC
