...you can't understand the simple language that O'Reilly was JUSTIFYING the use of slaves because they "were well fed and had decent lodgings." Slavery was OKAY because the slaves "were well fed and had decent lodgings."
That's what was being said explicitly and implicitly.
O'Reilly writes history books. He was merely making a point that those particular slaves were not treated like the ones we typically think of when we think of slavery.
