For all we know, in his heart of hearts he might feel that America would be in better hands with fellow maverick Trump than with Clinton. Obviously, he feels that the best hands would be his own. That's why he might not give up just yet. How old will he be in 2020?
Assuming he is leaving Philadelphia with his tail between his legs, what are his options now?
Jill Stein, presidential candidate on the Green Party ticket, has offered to slide herself down to V.P. if he'll defect to Green. It would make the general election into (essentially) a three-way race.
On the Green ticket, Bernie might attract a fleet of maverick lovers who had been leaning to Donnie for that reason. And a lot of women-wanting-a-woman would swing away from Hilly and see Jill as a fresh and decent pick.
This autumn, Bernie would have a soapbox from which to direct serious rants at BOTH of his opponents, each of whom seems hugely vulnerable. The American people might eventually get the message.
But don’t assume that Bernie would run away with the election. Two Jews on a left-leaning platform? A likely outcome is that no candidate would get the needed 270 electoral votes. The matter would go into the House of Representatives, and Trump would probably be elected.
This is a serious hypothesis looking for serious analysis and comment, please.

If you're not a "fan of Bernie" you probably are thinking in terms of what would be the best move he could make in terms of his career or personal game, so acting in the best interest of America makes no sense to you. So...no communication is viable.
I admire Bernie for his honesty and spunk. But, since Clinton's views lean left, I think that your thesis should be revised to say, "Bernie is doing the right thing as a SOCIALIST ..."

My suggestion would be that he join the traveling cast of the musical "West Side Story". He could then shuffle along in the chorus to the song "Everything's Free in America". If that becomes too strenuous for him, he could then self fund a committee to investigate how many REAL jobs career politicians such as himself have created as opposed to those "greedy" corporations.
