Nobody can hit shit at 60' with a "Lady-Smith 38"

It wasn't designed for that purpose. My mother used to carry a hammerless S&W 38 and I shot it many times. I was happy to put them all in the paper at 25', by comparison I can put them all in the black with my Glock at 25 yards, triple the distance for those of you who are math challenged.

My first handgun at age of eleven was a Walther PPK, yes the same as James Bond. It was no more accurate than my mothers S&W, despite thousands of rounds of practice at shorter distances, I doubt I could put more than a single round out of an entire clip (fuck you, I've been using the word clip for almost 50 years) into a human sized target at 25 yards.

Most handguns with a frame small enough to be concealed easily are not designed to be used in a fire fight, or to be used at distances much more than a few feet, but the conventional wisdom is for most street crime, if a threat is anything over 15-20' from you, it's probably no longer a threat. Most crime is up close and personal, not shootouts at long range.

do?   A. Pull out your phone and Text somebody?   B. Pray?  C. Throw your phone at the shooter when he is reloading and pray it hits him?

Most people would just lay there and shit their pants.  A rare few would charge the guy throwing chairs at him.  Me?  I hope I'd charge him throwing chairs.  While shitting my pants.
Did you know there was an off-duty cop there as a security guard and he was armed? He supposedly did fire a few shots.  I don't want to praise or condemn him because I don't now the full story of what he did (or didn't) do.  Still, 50 people died

And whatever you, me or anyone else thinks they'd do or would resolve or plan to do is probably useless if such a situation ever happened. Except for shitting your pants. I think we can all assume that that or something like that would happen.

Even if you trained under a Special Forces instructor and was really confident in your survival skills, the probabilities are very high that the particular circumstances of any such incident would tremendously complicate your ability to react as you had been trained.

That's why it's called terrorism I guess.

confronted by a gunman.  They did not shit their pants but I bet the gunman did once they got through with him.  Some guys will fall on that granade or grab a chair.

get  on top of her, grab her concealed semi automatic pistol and hope I  shoot as well at the live target as I do at the range.  
   That's  if she hadn't already shot the assailant between his  eyes or knocked me out for attempting  to take her weapon.  
   
   She has  remarkable  aim with a pistol at less than 60' and hits the heavy bag a lot  harder with her foot than I'd ever want to endure.  
     
    Notice I have two hopes in one scenario, that's still better odds than being slaughtered.  
   
   
 One thing I know for sure, she's packing heat wherever she goes, even where it's illegal,  as long as there's  not a  metal detector at the door.  
   
     I asked  why she packs heat when we're at the Beach, she replied, "paraphrasing" lunatics  with weapons on a mission to kill innocent citizens, usually  target the most defenseless people at play.  
     
   
  If you've never asked your Gal to spend the afternoon at the shooting range, you'll never find out if she's extra horny when you leave.  :-D

At 60' you had as much chance of hitting anything with it if you threw it.  I now have a Colt .45 1911.  Get hit with that and you won't be getting up again.

I wouldn't go to a club where the patrons didn't look like upstanding citizens in the community. And I would certainly never go to a club that's designated a GUN FREE ZONE. That would be suicide: the whacko shooters know they can get a good kill there.
