First of all, I think you missed this part of my comment or perhaps you didn't realize that Haredi are the extreme end of the Chassidic sect of Orthodox Judaism.

I myself was raised in that environment. My sister met her husband on her wedding day under the Chupah. I can tell you all about it, and I can probably describe word for word what the young lady wrote in her book without ever having read it.  

I'm not a fan, having rejected that way of life myself long ago. But i'm still a Jew and I will defend even Haredi Jews from anyone who wants to harm them.

Not so sure about self-loathing Jews, the Neturei Karta or the ones too afraid to acknowledge their heritage in public.

A friend then sent me a link to a mindbending 2012 interview with Deborah Feldman, who grew up in the Satmar sect among Brooklyn’s Hasidic Jews. She was forced into marriage at 17, but, encouraged by college friends, mustered the courage to leave that deeply misogynist culture some three years ago. Jack you mention earlier, every religion has extremists.
So at one time or another and every religion, had a group of extremists that did the same things!
They did not respect, what they were learning and twisted it.

People stood up against the hateful aspects of it so it either evolved or it would be destroyed, so it evolved.

Islam, with libs WK for it every chance they get instead of standing up AGAINST it, stop it from evolving like Christianity did and thus it still lives in the stone age.

Attacking abortion clinics.....calling for the assassination of medical personnel that perform legal abortions.....opposing basic constitutional rights for gays , such as marriage .....restricting the sale of alcohol ( oh yes , there are still dry counties )... Praying for the President to die ( a Republican congressman )..... proposing laws to ban yoga pants ( a Republican state legislator )...Opposing decisions of consenting adults and sexual activity...
The list could go on and on.
Yes, many Christians have evolved. I like to think I have. But many are as archaic and dangerous as fundamentalist of any faith.

BTW if the mayors objections to the print ads were based on body shaming that is a very different thing than oppressing ads that appeal to sensuality.  In fact it is almost more of a liberal feminist attitude than that of a sexually repressed religious zealot .

Now go see my Pew poll I linked previously that Maher often cites and look at the MAJORITY of Muslims that favor death to infidels and apostates, death for adultery, honor killings, stoning gays, etc etc etc.

So now, do you really wanna compare the two religions????

...The mayor CALLED for a ban, he didn't ban anything.  You're so eager to find anything critical of Muslims that you posted the first anti-Muslim article you found without verifying the source.  The Daily Caller was founded by conservative loser Bowtie Tucker Carlson who was fired from every news network (since caught on at Fox).  You didn't even bother to verify if it was true because you were so eager to post anything that portrays Muslims in a bad light.

England and Europe have been light years ahead of the Puritanical U.S. when it comes to nudity.  For years, Rupert Murdoch's newpaper The Sun had a cheesecake photo called "The Page Three Girl."

From reading London Times and The Guardian, I have a better understanding of reasons for the proposed ban. There were many protests and a 7000+-signature petition by women urging for the ban. The ban is on ads that promote and put pressure on women to have an unhealthy and unrealistic body image. The ban only applies to ads in public transportation. I am not a Muslim and in fact do not like that religion or any religion for that matter. But, I do not see this as the mayor imposing his religious beliefs on others. From what gather from most respectable media, he is not a religious fanatic and in fact, he is perceived by most women in that city as a feminist. So, stop spreading Fox spin.
