I've looked through a lot of the discussions over the past year about the area as it pertains to our little hobby here...
Is it really as bad as most say it is? Particularly upscale hotels in Silver Spring, Bethesda and Rockville?
If a girl was doing her due diligence with screening does it deserve any extra precautions than say Arlington, Tysons or Dupont?

Think it definitely needs some extra precautions but I've seen plenty of providers in Rockville and Gaithersburg.
This is a high-income area with a million people and generally deep-blue politics. This place should be rich with escorts, so you know that there is a reason they aren't here. I live in MoCo, and I like it, but for some reason the local gendarmerie is very focused on prostitution. Agencies are long gone, and independents are working here mostly in a very low visibility way. Or else they get busted quickly.
If a woman who could be very discreet wanted to work here, she would probably succeed. Working out of her home would probably be good if she didn't have other problems with that and she could avoid the attention of neighbors. In hotels, it would help if she avoided mentioning the county in any ads and tried to pass as a professional when checking in (casual professional attire, maybe a wedding band too). Low volume would probably be essential. For a young woman on tour who couldn't pass as a professional, it would be a very bad idea.
DC, Arlington, Alexandria, and Fairfax are all nearby. None are hooker paradises, but likelihood of arrest is much lower.

I think I agree with everyone about erring on the side of caution and sticking with DC and Northern VA
