Is it really so out of line to expect that political leaders would rely on the teachings of their influential mentors and heroes in shaping their world view and political policies?:

How to create a social state by Saul Alinsky:  

There are eight levels of control that must be obtained before you are able to create a social state. The first is the most important.  

1) Healthcare– Control healthcare and you control the people  

2) Poverty – Increase the Poverty level as high as possible, poor people are easier to control and will not fight back if you are providing everything for them to live.  

3) Debt – Increase the debt to an unsustainable level. That way you are able to increase taxes, and this will produce more poverty.  

4) Gun Control– Remove the ability to defend themselves from the Government. That way you are able to create a police state.  

5) Welfare – Take control of every aspect of their lives (Food, Housing, and Income)  

6) Education – Take control of what people read and listen to – take control of what children learn in school.  

7) Religion – Remove the belief in the God from the Government and schools  

8) Class Warfare – Divide the people into the wealthy and the poor. This will cause more discontent and it will be easier to take (Tax) the wealthy with the support of the poor.

Doctors and other medical options, guns will never be taken from or given up by the people as there Will be civil war, people go into or out of poverty on their own accord, I am an atheist and i get along in life just fine, there is always private and home school options.  The stupid people fall into some of the categories above but not this guy.  Money just about buys everything.

....although it was many years ago, but none of these things sound vaguely familiar. Which right wing website did you get these from? The book itself is actually pretty boring with little political theory or philosophy laid out. Alinsky himself, never  joined with the left in any formal sense but leftist activists held him up as a strategist for showing how to implement social change. IMO, his reputation and impact is largely overblown by right wing wind bags. The title of the book, "Rules for Radicals" sounds extreme and scary, but it is a boring practical manual for implementing social change.

But just looking at these points seems to describe something else that's going on. At least a few of them.

RE 1): without the Affordable Care Act, Insurance companies control healthcare, and exert economic control over working people and tie them to competitive corporate plans. Harder to leave an employer and foot the insurance.

RE 6): again there's a stronger agenda through for-profit schools and Fox Propaganda to limit information to what Corporations want the people to know.

RE 8): corporations have been waging a war between the classes by suppressing unions and creating an oligarchy which is unsustainable as a functionable society.

Seems like corporate rule is the obvious radical element. But it simply can't last, IMO, something will have to give sooner or later.

And item 7 is based on the lie that the U.S. ever was supposed to be a "Christian" Country.  There is a wonderful book called NATURE'S GOD by Matthew Stewart that details the philosophical origins of the constitution and the vast majority of the Founders.  It is fascinating and detailed. Hey, you will never look at John Locke and Benedict Spinoza the same way again! (Or Ben Franklin, for that matter, a total  pussy hound, that guy).

Where, nuguy?  Specifically where in Alinsky's books can those statements be found?  Stop wasting our time with your mindless copying and pasting from tinfoil hat websites.  Try thinking on your own for a change and try verifying what you read.  No wonder Trump is so popular - so many poorly educated, low information people out there.
