There are good agencies and bad agencies just as there are good independents and bad. Often times the quality of agencies has a lot to do with geography and tendencies of a particular area. In Vegas the agencies are pretty much all rip-off from what I have heard and read (I've never used one). In Boston we have several very good agencies who represent some amazing ladies who simply do not want to be independent.
There are good reasons for a provider or a customer to choose either option. What is important to remember here is that it's the singer not the song. Ultimately the reviews of the actual lady that you want to see are what matter. If you see a gorgeous lady or ladies on an agency's website but they have no reviews the chances are that you are not dealing with a reputable agency and the girls in those pictures may not even exist...at least not looking like the actual girls in the pictures. OTOH, if you find a dynamite looking gal on an agency site and the site links to her wonderful TER reviews the chances are very good that you are dealing with a great lady and a reputable agency. There are very few absolutes in this hobby but good reviews are certainly one of them.
I've read a lot of posts and the general opinion is that agencies aren't as good as independent ladies. I realize this is a naive question, but why the bad rap on agencies? I'm thinking of seeing a lady from Belle De Jour, which looks like a big, reputable agency that's very well organized and efficient. I tried to find TER reviews of their website, but couldn't find any. Any thoughts on this or on agencies in general?

some hobbyists are rightly concerned that if they deal with an agency, the possiblility of their personal information getting into the hands of LE, or worse yet, the internet, is increased.
While it is rare, the odds are not zero. LE often focuses on agencies more than independents because they get more bang for their investigative bust that way, and it makes for more interesting headlines in the papers.
It makes me think twice before using an agency.
there is a certain high profile case in Atlanta where the two ladies busted were technically independents and not only did LE get customer info...they brought pandering and drug charges against a few clients...make ya think twice? *smirk*
As for targets first they seem to go after anyone where they can paint charges such as to seize property and accounts...mansion and bank accounts will do that even if the lady is an "indie".
I got the same idea as well, I am wondering about that about one agency, no reviews on the gals and absolutely no TER..which seems took risky to take till someone give the okay.
Either way you should be OK. If you see well reviewed ladies (5 or 6 minimum) with reviews from established reviewers (again, 5 or 6) and not one timers, you chances of success go WAY UP. Happy hobbying.
Thanks, everybody, for the advice. I messaged some longtime hobbyists about the agency I'm interested in visiting, and they told me that it's a solid operation whose ladies have lots of excellent reviews on TER. Good to know.
