Is anyone going? I wasn't planning to, but my bf's friends ended up with extra tickets. Not sure yet if we're going since it's a month away and we haven't planned or budgeted for it... This would be my fifth Burn, haven't been since 2011. Just curious whether anyone else here is going.

Ada, question have you research the possibility of this event being cancelled due to the water crisis were having. I knew a major racing and country festivals in the region being cancelled because of the drought, reason they announced the acre of gallons this events use which the counties and the state can not afford to supply, just asking?

I have not seen any mention of the drought impacting BM or jeopardizing the event.  There is no running water @ BM, and there is no run off/drainage/disposal of water on site. It seems BM is incredibly efficient in its use of water resources and would be the last man standing when it comes to water shortages / restrictions.  The only exception would be the occasional spraying of traffic paths with water to minimize the dust, but I believe this is not done with "potable" (drinkable) water, and dust reduction is actually a matter of health and safety to reduce the inhalation of the alkaline playa dust and it's potentially irritating pulmonary effects

Thanks max209... Agreed, the water crisis is not a threat to Burning Man. The festival is self-sustaining and it takes place in the high desert, so water scarcity is a given. There is almost no existing infrastructure (everything is built/supplied by participants) and everyone is responsible for bringing their own potable water and disposing of their own grey water by evaporation or packing it out (Burning Man is the largest Leave No Trace event in the world). The most noticeable effect of the drought will probably be the playa conditions (more dunes and more severe dust storms).

Burning man has been on my bucket list for a long time. The way it is described it sounds like I would not like it but I found in life that most things I think I am going to hate I end up loving. Most things in life I find are not what I expected it to be.  I would defiantly be spending a lot of money because I want to be prepared and have everything I need.

I had some guy tell me he had a spiritual awaking their. Maybe it was the drugs or maybe not. I do like the raver type of people if I go out which is very seldom. You rarely see fights and people are just so happy. I also love the raver costumes. Fluffies are fun. I have some raver outfits myself.  Well I hope who ever went they had a good time.

It is always good to be careful who you trust in any kind of raver thing that everyone knows about. They do crackdowns sooner or later. Plus the desert and drugs sounds like a bad combination. That is one reason I was scared. If I so take drugs here I get panicked lol Just imagine over there how much of attack I would have. I do my best not to go to scenes like that anymore but I would love to experience it once with good friends and being very prepared for the worst. I am not good at doing drugs but I was told sober people go too. It would be interesting.

Angel Monroe.

Just a warning to those who are going for the first time or have not gone in a while:

I didn't even go back in the old, old days but I did go from 2000-2006.  There was a definite sense of community, trust and general friendliness from the people and the art was and still is phenomenal.  But it's changed

From what I hear now, the trust is just gone due to undercover cops dressed as young, fun burners coming into your camp wanting to have fun and party with you.  They will hang out with you all day and then arrest your ass and haul you off to Reno jail if they find you have any drugs.  I've heard dozens of stories like this.  They will sometimes do this early in the week, absolutely killing the sense of community and trust from the inside.

Having said that, BM can be a ton of fun!  There's nothing else like it.

If you want something more low key, FREE, no dust and surrounded by natural hotsprings, go to the exact same playa on 4th of July weekend with a bunch of friends, set up a camp, light it up like crazy or you might get run over by a car at night and bring your own potty and lots of shade.  There's a few thousand people who go and it's a blast!

looks like lots of "citations" but only a few "arrests".  Any encounter with LE that involves official paperwork ruins the day.
