"I'll  have an American".
Yes; this is both political and religious to me

and I can't imagine a context where that statement could be construed as religious, but I will reserve judgment until you provide a bit of context for us.

Budweiser is owned by a Belgium company and operated by someone in Brazil.  (my understanding)
They plan to change the name "Budweiser" to "American".  This has something to do with the upcoming games.
My initial reaction was WTF are they doing to my beer...a National Treasury...un-American!
In a way I worship the beer so to me there is an element of religion.
Should never have posted this.  Had to many "Americans" last night.

For Budweiser to call it's beer "America."

Budweiser is a brand so universally known that the product will still be immediately recognizable, it would be like Coke any name they wanted on their trade marked Coca Cola bottle, no matter what the name on the label EVERYONE would know it was Coke.

Beer has always been about marketing, some campaigns work, others fall flat. Personally Budweiser is one of my least favorite beers, frankly I think it tastes like piss water, but business is business. Let's see how the market reacts. Flag waving is sometimes hugely successful, other times not so much.

it's taste. While stationed in the South I tried to develop a taste for it, since when ever I was a guess at someone's place, or at a party, that seems to be the only beer available. I swear, it seemed, if they could, they'd have Bud coming out of the drinking fountains rather than water. But again, I could never develop a taste it for it, and it left me thirstier, after drinking it, than I was before drinking it.

And, now Trump is willing to take credit for the name change. Both, Bud and Donald are as fake as a two dollar bill (oops, I guess there really was such a thing, though didn't seem to last long). The company who owns Budweiser is not American, but Belgium. But, like you said, it's just a matter of marketing; actually for both of them. Regarding Bud however, I'd prefer they went the route similar to Carl's Jr., and those delicious dishes who are munching away on their burgers!  ;)

P.S. Though it wouldn't motivate me to by Bud; just refrain from fast-forwarding through the ad.

Like you it wouldn't get me to drink their beer, but I'd drool over their ads.

Even giving it away wouldn't get me to drink Bud. Back when I lived in Atlanta I went to see a lot of Falcons games and Budweiser had a beer tent where certain bar owners and guests were able to have their "tail gate" parties for free including free beer and food. They also had great parking for about fifty bucks, much better than the hundred dollar spots that were further away. The problem was, you had to drink Bud beer and even for free, piss water is still piss water.

For years I would drink Miller lite, mainly because it was the beer most of my friends drank and I just got used to the taste after several thousand of them.

When I do drink beer now, it all depends on where I am and what country I am in. If having Mexican food, I will drink Modelo Negra or Dos Equis, or anything but that nasty ass Corona. If I am in a Chinese restaurant I will usually order a Tsing Tao, At a sushi bar, usually a Sapporo or Asahi. Or when traveling abroad I will drink whatever the local brew happens to be.
