Reminds me of something in "The Great and Secret Show" by Clive Barker.  Wow.  I love me some CB but he can go to some awfully dark places.  I mean things you can't unsee kind of things.  Or unread.  Well, you know what I mean anyway.  What an amazing imagination though.  A true master of horror.  Iad Ouroboros.  Fucking brilliant.

My only problem with Barker is I have to keep a dictionary handy as he has one of the largest vocabularies I've ever seen.  Or maybe he's just showing off.  Not sure...

"Abbatoir?", "abbatoir?!"... really Clive?  Did you try "slaughterhouse" instead?  At least folks know what that word means.
