This is just a tragic accident. If the kid had eaten lipstick and died of poison, nobody'd care...

...there are plenty of valid bullet points in the discussion over management of weapon ownership and gun control, but this does not belong in the argument.

A two year old went rummaging in mommy's purse while she was driving.
mommy had a gun in her purse. toddler saw shiny plaything. BANG!!!
Nothing second amendment here, just tragedy.

It's getting to be a trend sweeping the nation. Those wild & wacky kids are letting mommy know who's really boss! The best way to stop this nonsense is that ALL mommies must pack heat and be ready at a moment's notice to defend themselves. Can't count on the government to protect 'em.

we should ban cars too? Trucks? Motorcycles?

Or only rights given to us by the constitution?

with passwords-  just like you have on your I phone Jack - this would completely eliminate the “child shoots mommy” problem that reoccurs every few months. The cost of adding this feature would be passed on the consumer. The technology already exists.

No constitutional rights infringed. If only Apple would get into the gun business. No, criminals would not go for it but the honest citizen would – and these are the guns that are killing our children.

Too bad President Obama ‘s approach to gun violence is to wring his hands and say how horrible it is instead of taking these simple steps

I am not saying your point has no merit, but are people going to trade in the older gun for the more costly newer one?

Doesn't everyone feel they are responsible and can handle the inherent dangers of owning a fire arm? And at what point would the new technology even show itself in the stats? 20 years? 50?

Also, if the parent, in this case, or any case, is so oblivious to the dangers of a gun to a toddlers well being, what chance did that kid or mother have with numerous other threats in daily life?

The fucking arrogance of gun grabbers. You don't like guns, Mari. You down own any and you will never own one. But you think it's just to tell me what KIND of gun to own? There are more children (and adults) who get killed in auto accidents, but do I tell you what kind of car you can own?

A "smart gun" is the exact same thing as an ineffective ban on all guns. The number one feature that I look for in a gun is that it WORKS. That it's RELIABLE. As the saying goes, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away. And so is text support.

A child shooting and killing their parent is an extremely rare event. Far more rare then say, a lawyer screwing over one of his/her clients.

Oh, hey here's a good idea! Just like we have people who don't know jack shit about guns thinking that they're qualified to make rules governing their use, how about we have garbage man, or mechanics, or better yet, gun owners, deciding on the rules that govern court rooms.

Taking some of the hardcore NRA rhetoric to is logical conclusion! ;)

I just want to to know how a two year old, in a car seat was able to find and get his hands on a gun, unless it was place in his lap. I suspect he wasn't in one.

I believe we could save more lives by outlawing alcohol versus outlawing guns.

Regardless, outlawing either one would be a foolish move and self defeating.

Wouldn't it be more productive and save more lives to outlaw fools ?

I don't know how many lives are saved by alcohol, I do know, many lives continue living when a law abiding, properly trained citizen is packing firearm defense.

the absolutely stupid calls for folk to carry weapons on college campuses, in churches, and in bars. Recall the last mommy who was shot up by her toddler was a fervent pro-gunner who argued that guns are safe safe safe in the hands of responsible citizens like herself. I'm not arguing for a complete prohibition on guns, just some useful regulation.

Look at all the toddlers who die from accidental poisoning.
You can regulate to your hearts desire  and stupidity will sometimes accidentally kill.

I feel no need to carry a weapon since I don't go to Church or attend College.

My GF  always has her concealed weapon on her when she's alone in public .

She carries when she goes to classes, even though her school does not allow weapons on campus.

Like most responsible gun owners, she doesn't advertise she's carrying.
I rarely see her weapon  unless we are at the range.

If one out of twenty students were packing heat I seriously doubt Seung-Hui Cho would have been able to kill 32 innocent, defenseless people on  Va. Tech. campus.

I don't attend Church but if I did I'd be armed.

No way I'd  enter a Church  unarmed, especially with the abundance of anti Church people of  today who despise God fearing, peaceful Church folk.

If only one person praying at the table with Dylan Storm Roof had been carrying a weapon, the outcome could  have ended with Dylan shot dead  between his beady eyes, before nine innocent, defenseless people died.

Laws don't stop lunatics from killing innocent people, gun owners often do.
