END OF MESSAGE

I live near downtown Atlanta, itp south. Reviewer doesn't like my neighborhood. They're building a library around the corner, there is a park and 2 retirement homes and a church within 3 blocks. It is Not a bad neighborhood, but it is a Black neighborhood which made him uncomfortable

Sorry Elizabeth, but I don't think this is going to be the last time a guy doesn't want to go the area that you are talking about. There are a lot of areas with churches, retirement homes, and parks, but areas where you've got teenagers slinging crack in those very parks. Some guys aren't going to know your exact neighborhood and know that it's "nice" Typically "black" urban areas are a bit sketchy, let's not let political correctness blind us to that fact.  I can't think of many neighborhoods in the area that you are talking about that many of us would consider "nice". I think you may just have to accept that to appeal to an "upscale" market, you are going to have to host in an upscale area.

Would I go south of the Ted  or even I 20 for an incall.   Hell no.

I know there are decent areas down there.   But I also know there are places where people get carjacked and killed.  The problem I have is that I don't know which area is which.  I do know enough that it changes quick and one wrong turn can be a life changing experience.  You can certainly run into the same issues in places like Tucker and Chamblee and even Sandy Springs.  But the difference is that I know what areas to stay out of.

Now-- is it racist that I don't know those areas well enough to feel comfortable and more importantly that I really don't know anyone who does live down there.  Probably - as defined in recent times.  Is this something peculiar to Atlanta or even the U.S. Not really.

Bottom line.  GaGambler is right.  If you want more upscale clients you are probably going to need to be some place else. We upscale types do not care much for unnecessary risk.. Even if most of the risk is in our head

so I can be properly outraged for someone elses feelings?

Where she says her sketchy ass apartment is in a black area?
The fact that she wonders why the dude points out that her apartment is in a sketchy area?
White dudes going to black areas for pussy ?
Upscale clients prefer nicer areas of town?

no matter the prevailing race living there. There are some damn sketchy white redneck areas, too! Choosing a safer location is not of itself racist. That being said, I am sure that prejudicial thinking helps to create more fear than actual risk may warrant.

No doubt racism does contribute to the creation and maintenance of some of those areas.

No matter where you are, there will be someone who doesn't like the location (for whatever reason).

The entire area around Langford Parkway and Metropolitan Parkway (formerly Stewart Avenue) is shitty and has been a bad area since around 1980.

That area of Atlanta is still ranked as one of the worst neighborhoods in the entire U.S.

Here is an AJC article from 2013 where that area was listed as #9 of 25 most dangerous in the U.S.: http://www.ajc.com/news/news/atlanta-neighborhood-no-9-on-most-dangerous-list/nXdh4/

Black Enterprise Magazine 2014 ranks an area just North of Langford as #3 on it's list of most dangerous neighborhoods in the U.S.: http://www.blackenterprise.com/news/the-10-most-dangerous-neighborhoods-america/9/  (Is BEM racist?)

Here is a pastor who moved to the Sylvan Road/Langford parkway area in 2011 because he wanted to do outreach in neighborhoods that are "the worst of the worst". http://www.cbs46.com/story/17949395/with-citys-input-pastor-chooses-high-crime-neighborhood-as-place-for-outreach

A quote from the pastor: ""We called the Mayor's office and asked if they had any place where there was the most drugs, the most crime, the most problems. And they said the Sylvan Hills area," (Is Kasim Reed's office racist?)

From the article:

In order to sustain the operations of his church, Downs also runs a U-Haul rental and sales center. Last week one of his trucks was stolen and used to ram through a beauty store window across the street so the suspect could get in and steal expensive hair weaves. Atlanta Police said they were still looking for a suspect as of Monday.

Over the following weekend, Downs said two people were shot across the street from his church. Gunfire, he said, is a frequent sound in the neighborhood.

So much for your church proximity theory.

Even if your little street is "ok", a client has to drive through the rest of the shithole that is SW Atlanta before he gets to you, leave his car unattended, then drive back through SW Atlanta to go home.

It's not a race issue, it's a crime level issue

Saying a neighborhood is rough or transitional has nothing to do with it being black.  I would say the same thing about a trailer park full of white people.  Painting me out to be a racist because of that comment is ridiculous.  The neighborhood I live in has as many blacks as white's if not more.

My review was overall positive, but given how you are reacting now, I'm regretting that.
