bwahaha. Seriously I do not know her so I may not be speaking correctly about her... but common sense would tell anyone that she has clients, family, friends... to ask for any money, let alone 2400$. Where the heck is she coming from that it costs that? Even if out of country, it doesn't cost even half of that.
Asking a complete stranger for money, huh. That is sad.
This is a common occurrence receiving email from friend that lost their money or were robbed in a foreign country.
I hear she's in Nigeria and has 20 million in a US account and needs to get back here to access it, says she'll give half to you if you help her. And a free PONY!!
You'd be a fool not to jump on that deal. I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

Glad to know chivalry isn't dead, I just hope common sense is alive and kicking too.
Speaking of, I always thought the classic example of the man throwing his jacket into the mud so the lady could walk on it was a terrible idea. It would be much more chivalrous to pick up said damsel and carry her through the mud puddle. Either way some article of clothing is getting muddy. But with my way you wind up with a very appreciative damsel in your arms. That's a win-win situation.
But I think differently than most folks... LOL
You don't need to have access to an email account to send an email with that account on the return address. If I know your email address, I can forge an email that appears to come from you with nothing more than 30 seconds and a Telnet client.
The real tell-tales in these cases are that contact instructions are anything but contact by return email.
