Re: Paying cash for a hotel room...

I had never problems paying by cash & no questions asked by the Hotel Managers.
But they do need to see your CC.

Do hotel managers allow or question paying in cash, especially at upscale hotels?  How do I explain why I need to pay in cash?  Does a cc need to be used to make a reservation?  I do not want the cc to be charged at all.  Please help.  Thanx

You will have to use a credit card to book the room. They will also want to see the card and run it as a retainer against room charges. As long as you pay the bill in full, in cash, when you check out there will be no charges on your CC. Be sure to use a CC and NOT a debit card. Hotels typically put a "hold" on a set amount of funds when you check in using a debit card and this will sometimes effect your available balance for as long as two or three days after check-out even though no money will be withdrawn.

Beantown guy has it correct.  You reserve the room and check-in with a cc, then settle the bill with cash on your way out.

When I get a room at say, 3 PM, and then am done with it at around 5 or 6 PM, I, for one, don't feel good about going up to the desk and checking out; not that there's any reason for me to do so since I use a credit card; however a person using cash would have to.

It would seem that you are just advertising the fact that you were there for some kind of sexual liason, and why bother doing so if you don't have to.

Well, the clerks will think what they will think....who really cares?

A couple of months ago, the local paper in Worcester, Ma. ran an article about how one police department in the town of Auburn, just south of Worcester and located at the intersection of several major interstates, was going to all the motels in town and asking the managers and clerks to report any activity that seemed suspicious such as single women with multiple visitors to their rooms.

Based on this, I never hobby near that town and I make it a point to never give a desk clerk any reason to think that I'm there for anything more than a good night's sleep.

You just never know.

I did this very thing.  Walked in with no reservation around 2:00 PM, checked in and paid the bill in advance with cash, explaining that I would be leaving very early in the morning and didn't want to mess with it then.
4 hours later I left the key in the room and walked out the door.  If they thought about it at all (which I doubt) they would have thought I was going to supper or the like.
In short, no need to tell anyone you will only be there a couple of hours.

Yes, you do normally have to reserve the room with a cc.  Cash payment is never a problem, however I have got stuck a couple of times when the hotel automatically checks you out and slips that darn statement under your door at about 5:00AM and they have already went ahead and charged your cc.  You got to the front desk and complain and they back the charge out and accept your cash payment.  Problem is:  that charge and accompanying credit will show up on your next credit card stetement.  Try explaining that to your significant other.
