I have experience in countries where it is legal, and have done parlors before, but that is all. I prefer an apartment because I figure it's a safer bet with respect to le. Do all providers require a verification?

I suggest that you go to the Newbie Board, read the Self-Help = TER Instruction Manual (post pinned to the top of the forum). Then start asking your Qs on Newbie. They are not specific to New York.

Okay thanks for your help. Just a couple more question, how many reviews would you consider to be safe? And can't le come on here to write reviews for a setup? I'm guessing it's unlikely, but to your knowledge has anyone ever been caught using TER?

You can ask these types of questions on the newbies board and get a lot of replies and you'll find people to be more patient and understanding, generally speaking.
To answer your question, no, not all providers do ask for screening but most of them do. The ones who don't ask for screening may not be the ones you want to meet with.
The best thing you can do, as someone mentioned above, is to join Preferred411.com. Still, most providers will want you to have at least one or two references before they see you. But having a P411 membership will open some doors for you. I would see you as a new P411 member, but only at my in call in my hometown. I would not see you for an out call or on tour.
I also strongly recommend paying for a VIP membership so you can see all of the information here and learn your way around. You can do an advanced search and enter in the criteria that's important to you and find all of the ladies who might be a match for you. It's worth it.
In the future you can get a two week free VIP membership every time you write a review for a new lady.
