In science, both terms are used (and have been used) depending on what is being described. In fact, early research papers did call it climate change, but global warming became in use because a prominent scientist talked about that specific aspect publically and it made the media.
U.S. Cong. Matt Salmon was supposed to speak to second and third graders in a "Schoolhouse Rock" kind of way. But then he said this:

First if I had children i would tell them not the lie about Santa Claus. I would tell them is all part of culture and society. Just enjoy the idea. But nothing imaginary is real. And that goes for religions too.
I would watch the News with them and see how it is for others here and abroad. "See, you were not supposed to exist because of my socioeconomic status. For sure you were going to suffer, lose and probably be messed up and be a burden to society",I would tell them. "But since you're already here let me show you the good. But also let me show you the bad...
(You just can imagine if you will). Yes some children go hungry every day and they die with pain in their little bellies. Some kids don't need to be teached this. They experience it first hand. Yes there is suicidal bomber school and there are chemical and nuclear weapons too. But mostly handguns
Kids I'm telling you this not to scare you. But for you to be prepared and know the truth. This might save you from molesters and bullies. This might save you in case of a violence act or in case I never get to see you again and you end up alone with somebody else.
I would had made a great parent. At least better than some we get to see.

Speaking of scaring kids--- all these ridiculous dire warnings about climate change,or global warming,or climate disruption, or whatever the hell we are supposed to call it now. Remember back in the early 90s they said the Brazilian rain forests were shrinking and the world was ending a week from Tuesday?

...the climate hasn't "always" changed for them. It's only been in the last few decades that their land has started to be overtaken by the ocean.
To a scientist a few hundred years is barely a blip in the history of a planet several billion years old. To a religious nut that believe the earth is only a few thousand years old, centuries seems like a more longer and more relevant time frame.
Keep in mind, only a few decades ago scientists were convinced we were entering into another ice age. Science is a lot more reliable than an invisible man in the sky, but scientists are hardly infallible, and this science is hardly settled, nor will it be in our lifetimes.
