Rapid reduction in number of provider's reviews

While this is presumably not a NY specific issue, I have found this group to generally provide good input, so I am inclined to pose the question here.

What do you think is going on when a provider suddenly has more than half (e.g., 14 of 22) of her reviews removed from her profile in a situation where doing so increases her overall scores?  If the reviews that were pulled reduced her scores, I would think that it is TER policing a provider who has bogus reviews posted (but, I guess, in a case where they did not deem it warranted to suspend the account).  If it were only a few reviews, and in a relatively concentrated time-frame, it could readily be a case of a provider showing that someone is trying to post negative reviews to harm the profile.  But such a large number and over a long period of time leaves me a bit puzzled, and this is not the first time I noticed it.

None of this is to say that people should place too much credence in the numbers anyway - that is, and has been, a whole topic of its own - but to the extent that the numbers do provide any useful information, the pattern is potentially disconcerting.  In case it changes your thoughts on the matter, we are also not talking about a dramatic change in the average scores, but going from, let's say, 9.14 to 9.33 (i.e., the removed scores were clearly not all that bad that they would be likely plants for someone attempting to be malicious).

Oh, of course, I'm just asking for a friend.
