Beyond ridiculous. Guns actually save society money

Disarm the police and see what the cost to society turns out to be. And even armed private citizens sometimes stop gun violence before it happens.  You can’t measure the cost without acknowledging the benefits of guns.

Of course, neither the savings attributable to guns nor the cost is measurable. The data is simply not out there.

What Mother Jones has really done here is to try and measure the cost of crimes, suicides, and accidents where guns were used. But what they call “crunching the numbers” is simply  wild and worthless extrapolation. Do you really think they called gun shot victims and asked them for their total hospital costs?  They picked some imaginary number for the medical costs associated with a gun shot wound and then multiplied it by another imaginary number, the number of persons hit by a bullet. Obviously, the cost would vary depending on the severity of the wound.

How about the $169 billion for “quality of life” losses? Do you really think they obtained information as to the actual lost wages of a victim? The effect of disability? Again, they just picked out a number and extrapolated it. Their expert used jury awards for indirect costs? Only a fraction of gun cases ever gets to a jury. The bad guys are usually judgment proof- there is no one to sue. Only if there is a deep pocket somewhere liable for the shooting will a lawsuit be filed. Thus, the 5 or 6 jury awards for the year in question in shooting cases don’t remotely show the indirect  costs.

No keeps hard data like this. The only thing the article states correctly is that no one knows the costs

Apart from innocent people ending up dead, $229 Billion every year!     If what happened in LA yesterday continues as a trend, may be movie theaters will go out of business adding $billions more to the cost of people having guns!

If property taxes (Police, First Responders, Fire rescue, ambulance), hospital bills (people brought with gun shot wounds, who pays for them and their treatment?) and health insurance rates (hospital charges going up) keep going up,  we know where to find the cause!

If you dispute that mass shootings do not cost any money to the towns, then why not come up with how much money they saved ?   You say it saves money to the community.

So how much money the town of Aurora, CO is saving from the mass shooting in that movie theater ?    The trial is not over yet.     An estimate of how much money Lafayette, LA will be saving with the latest mass shooting in a movie theater ?

How much money did Oak Creek, WI and Newtown, CT save as they had mass shootings

Dubiya killed 5,500 of our servicemen in Iraq and saved Medicare and Social Security tons of money!

Let us all celebrate.

If you kill them when they are young, you save money by not spending for:

Education, health, social security, medicare. One way to shore up SS and medicare, etc.

Righty nuts are against abortion, the ones they don’t like are ones who are born

Movies at the theater. Most films are pure crap anyhow.

The coverage on TV/cable is truly the best seat available. And you needn't bother with traffic, fuel,  parking, crowds, and exorbitant prices for tickets, snacks and beer.
However; statistically one is probably more likely to get shot in their home by a family member than at a Dodgers game or NASCAR race.
