Trump hasn't apologized. I wonder if Colin Cowherd will? Colin works for ESPN. He was asked if baseball is complex. Below is what he said on his radio show.

“It’s too complex? I’ve never bought into that ‘baseball is too complex.’ Really? A third of the sport is from the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic has not been known in my lifetime as having world class academic abilities. A lot of those kids come from rough backgrounds and have not had opportunities academically that other kids from other countries have. Baseball is like any sport. It’s mostly instincts. A sportswriter who covers baseball could go up to Tony La Russa and make an argument and Tony would listen and it would seem reasonable. There’s not a single NFL writer in the country who could diagram a play for Bill Belichick. You know, we get caught up in this whole ‘thinking-man’s game.’ Is it in the same family? Most people could do it. It’s not being a concert pianist. It’s in the same family.”

Should Colin apologize? Was his comments racist, or were his comments actually factual, informative, with maybe a touch of insensitivity. To mari, an avowed liberal, Colin's comments should not be considered racist, or even insensitive, as he is communicating a fact.

Baseball has been berry berry good to Dominicans.

P.S. If you look at Wonderlic scores, football isn't very complex either. Just ask Jamarcus Russell

He doesn't blame race, or even nationality, as the cause, but poverty. He also makes the point that they don't have the "opportunities" that other kids have in other countries.

Sounds to me like he is making a reasoned, rational argument and worded in a way that leaves out anything derogatory of a racial nature.

So, no, I don't think an apology is warranted here. Not even close.

Not sure about your football comments though Croix. LOL

That is the most complex sport on the planet and by a very wide margin, imo.

50 questions, Math, English, Reasoning. You've got 12 minutes. You can go online and see examples. Coaches use the results as one measure in determining draft status. African Americans make up over 75% of the NFL rosters. They don't do well on the test. So if someone came out and said as much, even with context around it, what do you think the results would be?

Now mari basically made the point when he said he would pick a black basketball player over a white player, because he wants to win, and black players have more talent than white players.  Let's say I'm a head coach, and I select a white QB over a black QB, both have equal athletic ability, but I go with the white QB because I believe they have they have "intangibles" to be more successful. How long would I be a head coach?

P.S. Juan Bautista of the Toronto Blue Jays, who is Dominican, is ripping Colin a new asshole. Reasoned and rational comments to you, but not to a Dominican.

Is it just a general, knee jerk PC bitch or did he make a valid critisism?

And per your example, of course you would pick the white QB, if you believed that to be true. You would be a head coach as long as you win.

Now what you tell the media on draft day and what you believe in your heart may be different, but it is generally accepted race has nothing to do with drafts.

Today it's all about winning that's it. All white players? You better win. All black ones? You better win. It's all about the green, not the white or the black.

If that's what Mari said, that's dopey. Most blacks are better than most whites but each player is evaluated on his own merits and race isn't one of them. It can't be! My Knicks just took Porzingis, the whitest man ever drafted! Lol

Watch some Formula 1 sometime friend - hell, most motorsports, but Formula 1 in particular. To say that it is less complex a sport than football is comically inaccurate.

I called Trump's remarks regarding Mexican's crossing the border as a generalization, and not being racist, though I do believe he is addressing racists, along with people who have truly been injured or done some injustice or disservice by them. I see nothing in what Colin has said that is racist. It may be a generalization. I'm not certain, but even those Dominican's who do not fit it will likely feel disrespected. Disrespected in the same way when we American's, traveling overseas, are often seen and treated like "The Ugly American," despite being on our very best behavior. I'll give an example of the murkiness of it all. I've know a waitress for some time. She has very strong preferences on who she wishes to wait on based on country of origin, race and/or culture. I need not go into her list of preferred and none preferred clientele, but she bases it on the likelihood of getting a good tip vs. a lousy tip or no tip at all. So, is that considered racist? I think not. However, add to the mix, that she is from another country, and is non-white. And, she truly believes her people are superior to all others, though she has respect for the French and Scandinavians. Now, the picture is really murky. Is she a racist or merely discriminatory? Whether, Irish, Scot, French, Italian, etc., etc., each tribe member views their tribe as being the the best. That's why I do not toss the work racist around lightly, nor do I think those in the press or in politics should do so.

if the comments were racist, bigoted, insensitive, disrespectful, whatever. I thought Colin's comments were logical, and in no way intended to be offensive. Doesn't matter. Why did Martin O'Malley apologized immediately after his "All Lives Matter"? Unfortunately, only the recipients of the comments get to determine the severity and mete out the punishment.

Here is the latest from Colin Cowherd of ESPN. There will be an apology. It will appear sincere, but really, are any of these apologies really sincere, or just an exercise to get off the front page?
