Both Stanford and Harvard are world-class, truly great universities.  Comparing schools of that caliber is nearly impossible as there are so many different criteria that can be used and those differences can change the results every time.

Two well respected US rankings are published annually by US News and by Forbes.  In the US News rankings, Harvard is #2 and Stanford is #5 (…Princeton was #1).  Forbes, using a different comparison criteria, ranked Stanford as #1 in the nation, and Harvard came in 8th.

Take your pick.  Whichever school is better, it's only by a nose anyway.

Of course, if you ask an alumni of either institution, you'll get a completely different answer than I just offered.

So I'm in the elevator conversing with this gentlemen.   He told me he went to Stanford,  I made a statement I heard from a movie scene.   "Stanford......The Hardvard of the west,"  He said "Hardvard is the Stanford of the east."  Giving a unbiased opinion,   what school is better and why?
