The economic issues SO outweigh his thoughts on religion or gay marriage for me...I really don't care about them. They are fringe issues and this country is in deep financial trouble.

It was amazing to see him rally against the unions and knock them down, and get such support in a very unionized state.

It just goes to show you how many people have turned against unions in the last 10-15 years.

And the reasons are obvious.

...stance.  His wife isn't exactly endorsing Walker's position either.  So I'm guessing the young voters of America won't exactly be rushing to support Walker when he announces his candidacy today.

while I support the rights of gay people to be as miserable as the rest of us, it is WAY down on my list of issues I really give a fuck about.

I do understand why the Dems would love to keep this issue on the front page because it forces moderate Republicans move to the right to keep from losing their base, while allowing the "true" righties the opportunity to make themselves look like homophobic bible thumpers. So yes, Dems would love to keep this as the burning issue of the day, while Reps would do well to answer simply "it's the law of the land" and keep moving.

It is a bit ironic though. I am one "righty" who will freely admit that GW won in 2004 largely because he used the issue as a scare tactic to get the old church going crowd to the polls to "protect the sanctity" of marriage. I guess it would be poetic justice if the tables were turned in '16

This issue does get a LOT of press considering how few people percentage wise are even affected by this. There are somewhere over a million same sex couples living together in this country, which seems like a lot of people, and it is, but this is out of a population of well over 300 million. There are MANY issues that affect ALL of us, why not just one, but possibly two presidential elections could be turned on this rather narrow issue is beyond me. I said it then when the GOP used it as an issue, and I'll say it now to the Dems, it's just not that important to me.

I would bet Walker will do better against Hills with the younger set than Romney or McCain did against Obama.

THATS the issue. Hillary is an old tired, hag compared to the Rubio and Walker types.

If the liberals lose the youth vote, they lose the election. The only question is the margins of the vote and I think its very likely for R's to close the youth age gap quite a bit, pending their nominee of course.

Winning the youth vote isn't really a goal or a need for R's.

Lets not kid ourselves, the Hildabeast doesn't exactly have a lot of charisma, and her voice has a very unpleasant quality to it. Put her in a room one on one with the likes of a Jeb Bush and the young people will flock to him in droves. Now against a "true" righty, a bible quoting stick in the mud, she may do quite better.

I am interested in watching Walkers "coming out" speech, I think it will be quite telling about how well he is going to connect with a national audience. I have mixed emotions about Walker, on the one hand I like how he stood up to the unions and not only withstood the recall election but downright "Kicked ass" in it. OTOH, I don't like or trust bible thumpers, and I am interested to see just how big a thumper he is and if he can stay on point with things that I care about and not get bogged down on issues like gay marriage and abortion rights.

...simply because they're brother or sister union members.  Teachers, Teamsters, COPS.  Have you turned against cop unions in the last 10-15 years, Jack?  Or are they the only "honest" union?  And why does NYC need FIVE separate cop unions?

BTW, did you know that LASER is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation?  The Cunning Linguist is enjoying himself too much at the moment so I picked up the slack for him.

Ties to organized crime, their penchant for beating people up, ridiculous workplace rules, not caring about quality, etc etc etc

I don't defend cop unions. I don't blindly defend anything here and you know that.

I defend individual cops on a case by case basis pending the facts.

And your side condemns cops, while admitting they don't have the facts.

See Barry and his wonderful take on the Cambridge police incident as exhibit A, if you really need to be reminded.
