...but to paraphrase Doc - people who take him seriously are morons.

or is it ok to say Happy 4th of July or Independence Day without insulting others?

Linked is a list of Firework safety tips.

Here is a patriotic song:

Question for the Christ curmudgeons... if America is such a Christian nation, why don't I ever hear about Jesus, on the 4th of July?

... I found this nugget in the TER Archives.  It dates way back to August, 1776, and was posted by some Brit with a handle of BigGeorge in response to a question as to whether anyone had read a document from the Colonies entitled, "The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America":

I have most assuredly not read this filth on parchment, and will never do so!  Why waste my precious time reading something that was contrived by Terrorists!  John Hancock, one of the two signers of this rag, is known to be a Federalist!  To add insult to injury, it is rumored that a Papist--a Jesuit no less!--contributed to this evildoing!  That is of no surprise, of course; all Papists are to be reviled and their Priests and Bishops prosecuted to the full extent of the Law!  Messrs. Hancock and Thompson, and all who collaborated on this document, are Traitors to the Crown, and should be hanged for treason!

But ok one or some where Catholics. Others where Protestant, maybe a few of other religions and even some atheist.
(I don't know why I have a feeling Ben Franklin was an Atheist, was he?).

Why you always end up defending the Pope, like Dr. Gonzo defends Israel? Not that there is nothing wrong with that.
One more question. Who are you nom_de_plume? Are you a provider? There is no link to your page. Are you a hobbyist? No link to e-mail or reviews.

Don't feel threaten or attacked here. That's the way it is here. You say you love God, the Pope, Islam whatever. They will turn around and say Fuck God, The Pope, islam or whatever.  In the case of Israel if you say you hate it. They'll call anti semetic.

... as it seems you don't know how aliases work. I've made plenty of posts on the GD board that make it clear I'm a hobbyist... or john... or whoremonger... or whatever we're calling guys of my ilk these days.

From what info I can find on the signers of the Declaration of Independence, only one was Catholic, and the others were associated with various Protestant denominations, but there's debate over how strong those ties were for some of the signers.  For example, Ben Franklin is sometimes called an Episcopalian, but by his own words he was a deist who had doubts about the divinity of Jesus Christ.

Where did you see anything about the pope in my post above?  As for "defending" Francis, I happen to think he's not the evil, greedy man some here make him out to be; I think he's a big improvement over the last pope and is trying hard to right wrongs of the past.  He's not perfect and he's made some mistakes, and will continue to make mistakes, as all humans do.  I think he's actually a humble man, as his own words make clear:  "'Who is Jorge Mario Bergoglio? I am a sinner. This the most accurate definition. It is not a figure of speech, a literary genre. I am a sinner."  I don't think it's fair to blame all the mistakes of the 2,000 year old Catholic Church on Francis.

... people started to take him seriously.

Then it just got old.

Where's the apple pie? And, both damn well better have American cheese on them, not Jack (no offense Jack). And, certainly not served with French fries. They totally must be Freedom fries!    ;)

I'd just thought I would thank you, GaG, Tim and every other vet who reads this. There wouldn't be a July 4th without the incredibly brave men and women who have served our country for the last 239 years.

The rest of us live under the blanket of freedom that you have provided and thus deserve our heartfelt respect and gratitude.

Thanks to all of you and happy 4th!

All muscles, no brains (literally). But that's what girls like.
