I really enjoyed the book and learned a lot about the industry and current laws.

In terms of where Julie got nothing in return, why would she? The book was about the industry overall. There were several women who shared their stories. The book was a form of journalism - if someone is interviewed for a newspaper article or book, they don't get paid

I just finished Getting Screwed by Alison Bass, which includes a first person account of Julie Moya's life and many fascinating stories about the old days

I remember Julie! I met and chatted with her a few of times. First time was way over on the west side near the Lincoln Tunnel entrance, building next to the old church.  Last time was mere happenstance down in the upper W 20s when it was no longer Julie's. Fun and funny lady. Great sense of humor.

(One version of the story is that the book was supposed to be Julie's story and book but Bass kind of took it over. And Julie got nothing in return. Anybody heard that story?
