I seem to hear nothing but gloom, doom, and just how bad this country sucks and how it's getting worse by the day.

So given how bad everyone seems to think we have it here in this country, just how many of you are optimistic about your own future, and why?

As long as I wake up in America, there's always a chance for my more successful tomorrow.

In the U.S.A, I could be broke today,  with fifty bucks to my name, and have a better chance of becoming a multi millionaire next year, than anywhere in the World, without buying any lottery tickets.

but I'm fairly optimistic about my feature. I wouldn't say it's anything to get excited about.

sending me a pm about my past posts on the GD board. I do not even know what posts you are whining about either.
If whining about post of the past is in your future it is not very optimistic.

Pathetically pessimistic I'd say

You're welcome

I'm optimistic about my future because I have planned it out so as to not rely on the government.

I am extremely optimistic about my own life/future but I do believe the country is getting worse each day.

Some of that is Obama's fault, some of it is the Republicans fault, some is due to a combination and some is no one's fault.

Every great empire has its day of reckoning and we are on the threshold of ours.

We all allow ourselves to be too exposed to the media whores who act like a carnival barker to draw our attention and get our nickel.  They seem to do that with dreadful news of doom and conflict.

I am optimistic because I made up my mind long ago to enjoy my life to the fullest.  Life is too damn short to do otherwise. This means being kind to others ( when possible), rejecting the dead weight that comes along, keeping a sense of humor about all the crazy shit that happens, only applying my efforts/energy toward things I can control, and keeping a big picture perspective on things.  I also have a conversation with the Man upstairs everyday just to keep me grounded.

It's a coincidence, but I found the attached article today which seems relevant to your question.

then don't worry about having misjudged him, he will prove you right in no time

and I must have messed up.
But it's OK. I work, eat, party and play.
I don't follow religion or politics and whatever happens happens.

Other countries like in Sub Sahara Africa suck more and people there do what they do.
But this being the promised land is overrate, maybe.

After all we're all out of touch with reality because we like being push around. Therefore we post here.

As long as there are women around to have fun with the future looks good.

Of course, I am optimistic and there is no doubt about it.
The past has been wonderful.
Today is wonderful.
The future will be even better.
It is I, and only I, who is responsible to whatever success I may or may not have achieved.
I am responsible to my family. And, I believe I am responsible to all of you to help make our great nation even greater.
We are the United States, not the Divided States of America.  United we stand, divided we fall.
For the life of me I cannot understand how angry and divided we are at this moment.
It is my hope we can stop the hate, name calling, and division and recall, there is only one color that matters.  The color RED, the color of our blood.  What part of equal don't some understand?
I agree with Abraham Lincoln when he said,
"I believe people are just about as happy as they make up their minds to be."
Of course there are many problems and things going on in our nation that need changing. But, there is also the overcoming of problems.  Let us get together, debate issues, and solve some problems.
It is we, the People, who have inherited the blessings from our founders, through no actions of our own. We also inherited  the right and obligations by duty as Americans, to see to it that our country continues it's mission to form a more perfect union. It is our duty to see to it that there more and more equality, liberty and justice for ALL. The Preamble to the United States Constitution reads in relevant part: "We, the people, in order to form a A MORE PERFECT UNION........."(emphasis added)  We are not perfect, but it is better to light a single candle, than to curse the darkness.
I can only reply to your claims that you seem to hear nothing but gloom and how bad this country sucks as follows:  You have given no facts on any issue to which you refer.  But, let me say
it seems to me that it appears people simply believe the sky is falling by believing others who proclaim  the mantra of the evilness of United States.
However, when compared to other countries it is patently obvious some do not understand or appreciate
just what we really have. One fact in support of my observations is the fact that millions of people are coming to this country, legal and illegal alike, and leaving their own countries.  What could possibly explain this other that they see some good the USA has to offer as opposed to the lands from which they flee.
Additionally, I haven't seen too many trying to escape the despotism of the United States to which you refer.  I do not mean for this to be a attack piece in any way.  I do mean that I hope we, as, the people will become more independently thoughtful and make our minds based on whatever issue is being discussed and the facts presented.
I have a theory.  If we disregarded all the labels to witch we have become enslaved such as Liberal, Conservative, Republican, Democrat and all the rest and sat down and had a conversation.  My guess is that we would agree with each other more than is imaginable.
THE FUTURE LOOKS GOOD. Let's all make it so.  Yes, we can and Yes we will..
LET'S GO  AMERICA

mine is and will be ok.....but my kids and grandkids will never know how good the USA was.
Continued too much reliance on govt....continued lack of responsibility and the declining taxpayers will, if left unchecked, doom the country into a 3rd world space similar to the 3rd world South and Central American countries illegals left......

I cannot say it better.
However, we can and will change our future doom if we stop the hate and
get together and rely on ourselves rather than the government to cake care of us.
No government ever has ever taken care of the people nor will this one, of any party.
We can.

Optimistic about my future? Well, with death in it, not so much!  ;)

However, people who know me see me as being more on the positive side than the negative. As long as my lovely wife still sleeps in the nude with me, I have my hot shower first thing in the morning, and last thing at night, and I have my breakfast on the patio of my favorite restaurant, I'm a pretty happy camper. ;)

As far as our country, I believe it will continue to evolve just like most other countries have in the world. It may not evolve in all the ways I'd like to see, but I don't see us becoming like Greece on one hand, nor North Korea on the other. However, I will not rule out major catastrophes, man made or natural, taking their toll on us, and the rest of the world.
