New York

Friends and family come in from out of town and they love it.

It's more the atmosphere, and as you state, it is well known from the media. The food is good enough and the presentation is done well so I don't mind going there, but it is a bit of a tourist trap as it is super convenient for the theatre.

If you have ever been to L.A., it will remind you a lot of Musso and Frank in Hollywood. Same old school vibe.

Your mom is coming in from out of town she wants a nice meal where you taking her?  Location mid twenties west side.  We eat all different types of foods looking forward to hearing your reccomendations.

Remember you said a "nice" meal, lol

The food isn't the greatest but I think mom would get a kick out of the nostalgic setting and old school charm with all the stars caricatures on the wall.

She will like how the waiters are dressed, the old wood chairs, etc. I would have many other suggestions if you said "upscale" or "best food" but it's a NYC icon,is proly 100 years old and worth a one time visit.

Menu is classic American with beef, pork, chicken, etc.

It's on 44th so not far from you at all

As an outatowner I concur that Sardi's is just one of those iconic NY restaurants you need to visit.

I'd heard about it all my life. I mean it seems to be in every old black & white movie about show business.

My SO met me in NY a couple years ago after I'd already been there a few days for biz ( and yes , play ).  We were not planning on eating at Sardi's ....frankly just kinda stumbled upon it.  So we decided to give it a try for a late lunch.

Honestly I expected to place to be expensive , mediocre food and snobby wait staff.
But in reality prices were reasonable ( shared a really nice bottle of wine ....30 bucks ) food was very good with a nice menu to select from and the staff were exceptionally friendly......even fun.

I know local can suggest a zillion better options.  But it's a neat place that really is representative of a disappearing NYC culture.

Moms always love Italian food and Carmine's is a NYC institution.
There are better Italian places, of course. If you want to walk a little towards the West Side on 46th, Becco is a good choice too

Carmine is on my bucket list!
