I give the Baltimore Police Chief Anthony Batts a lot of credit for this interview.

So the only way to deal with a problem is to be honest on all sides of a issue!

...call 911.  There's a TER righty with a gun to my head and he forced me to write that)

LE in not just BMore, but nationwide. Good for Baltimore to admit it.

But to look to the feds for a solution? HELL NO!

IMHO, we need LOCAL policing with the good cops (the vast majority) breaking the mafia-esque "omerta" code of silence and helping to clean house of the bad ones. We also need LOCAL AG's to support them by making damn sure internal investigations are done well and that REAL consequences are brought to bear when cops break the law - just as they are when an average citizen breaks the law.

Invite the feds to "help", and we get secret courts (think FISC), Officials that lie to Congress and the people (think Gen. Alexander and DNI Clapper; neither of whom is in prison) and surplus tanks "donated" to patrol the streets of our cities. Let's not forget NSL's issued at the whim of any FBI SA, illegal photocopying of firearms 4473 and gun registration databases, and the widespread use of cellular interception devices (Stingray, Hailstorm) by any podunk sheriff without the required warrants. Last but certainly not least, how about rule by Executive Order without Judicial or Legislative consultation, review or opinion? If federal separation of powers is broken, how can we expect to preserve state powers?

The feds are a part of the problem creation, and certainly not a part of the solution. Time to pull their fangs, not feed them more blood.

Wow. I feel much better after ranting. :D

because it was a pretty good rant, one with which I can't seem to find a thing in it to disagree with.
