willy...  Hypothetically speaking, lets say I won first place in the D.C chili cook off three years in a row, when   I came up with  a secret recipe everyone loved.

After working  mundane jobs most of my life, being lazy ,smoking weed , drinking alcohol with false hope to stimulate my libido, I told myself there has to be a better way.
I put  the bowl and bottle down, hoping I could  find a way to move uptown.

Now let's say I designed a self contained, automated, rolling Chili wagon , that only required one person to run the show , including making my famous chili from my pre packaged ingredients.
Suppose my first automated Chili wagon  averaged sales of three hundred  bowls of chili  a day at five  bucks a bowl.
After all expenses, including paying my one employee 15.00 dollars an hour,  I'm making five  hundred dollars minimum, per day, of profit .
I could find employees who would work in my Chili wagon for less money, but I'm trying to be a politically correct Boss.

Now suppose I focused my energy with a passion, invested my profits on additional  auto mated traveling Chili wagons, hired more employees in D.C, to  package  my recipe, and built my business up in different cities , instead of going to Vegas and  blowing money, while being harassed unmercifully with escort Hawkers, throwing pamphlets in my face  on every corner.

To avoid paying overtime I hire two employees in every city and keep my Chili wagons on the street, seven days a week.
Soon I have a hundred chili wagons in cities all over the country.

One hundred chili wagons , times five hundred profit per day,=  fifty thousand dollars a day.
Eighteen million two hundred fifty thousand dollars a year is my pay.

I'm the guy who was  taking all the risks  while expanding my business .

My simple minded accountant, only famous for his  Math skills , makes ten times more than
 my Chili serving employees.

I believe I should be  making OVER 400 times more than anyone else on my payroll,
   except my accountant.
      Seems fair to me.
         Why not you ?

I just think that people should get paid for their work.

There are some businesses that should be run from the top down, particularly creative type businesses that require innovation and a creative mind. Apple comes to mind.

What doesn't make sense to me is if you have a business that say, provides a service, and say there's 100 employees, and they all do similar type of work, then it's absurd that one person should make 400 times more than everyone else.

All I'm saying is that in a country with a 16 trillion dollar GDP, no one should put in 40 hours a week and have to go on welfare just to eat. That's fucktarded.

For the last year on Sundays, I've been renting a booth at a local Flea market, selling T-Shirts with Politically and Socially Incorrect slogans and images.
There hasn't been a Sunday in the last three months when I haven't sold out my inventory.

I guarantee, quite a few of the shirts I designed  would not sell well in France.

My  brother has been tending to the booth ever since I started my small business.
I've been paying him on a strictly commission basis, he receives 30% of the profit on each shirt sold, the other 70%  goes to me for research and development.

Breaking my brother's commission  into an hourly amount he usually makes close to $11.00
an hour, which is three more bucks than he makes pumping gas during the week.
    He's happy, I'm happy.

I believe it's time to expand my small time extracurricular job into a larger Enterprise and eliminate the cost of a Flea market booth.
Instead of paying a local shop to print my shirts, I'll buy  equipment and print my own in my home.

To reach a much larger audience and make more money I'll  go online with a World wide web store.

I would like  to be known as a good boss,  perhaps become famous  for being fair to my employees, and my brother, paying them a decent  wage, regardless of the fact  my  company will be selling T-shirts with politically and  socially incorrect slogans.

I believe once I go online I can easily pay my first couple hourly employees a few bucks more than an entry level employee, at a  fast food joint, at the same time I would make a lot more money to supplement my Janitor job, and my other two part time jobs .

My question, is there an amount of profit that is considered to be fair, a Boss can make, on top of  hourly employee wages ?
I would prefer input, with a  percentage amount above net hourly  costs.

Keep in mind,  I'm the guy coming up with the slogans on the shirts, my employees  will only be involved with printing, packaging and shipping.
I expect to be paid well for  my mind coming up with  sick slogans and designs .

If my business grows like I think it will, I might hire workers to actually make  blank T-shirts
in the U.S.A.

If all goes well I might expand to ten , fifteen , twenty, maybe fifty or more  employees.
If that happens you might see less of me.  :-D

  Your thoughts ?

Got to go to work, I'll check back this afternoon.
        Thank you for your time.

and therefore calculating a "formula" for what is fair is impossible.

The guys handling shipping, etc. and who receive an hourly wage are not connected with profitability. IOW if they make $12 an hour and the business loses money, they are actually making MORE than you. OTOH if the business makes a million bucks a year, you are making over forty times what each shipping employee makes, and that's just how it's supposed to be.

Now if you have someone driving sales, that is a much different matter, especially if that person is getting paid a "commission" not a wage, and that person deserves the opportunity to share in the success of the business.

I know WillyWonka would disagree, Socialists/Communists et al believe that the simple act of "being there" entitles your workers to a share of the profits, even though they are guaranteed a living while you as the owner are not. and that's the reason that most people never go into business for themselves, they want all the rewards, but don't want to take any of the risks.

I just think that people should get paid for their work.

Second, don/'t discount the value of NOT hiring your own employees.

You are trying to grow a small business, and you may not want to deal with the headaches of hiring, training, monitoring, firing. Seriously think about what you can automate and outsource. Do you really want to manufacture t-shirts? do you want the liability? I can just see one of your new employees getting their fingers chopped off.
