I don't qualify for subsidies. The cost of the insurance sky rocketed because of Obamacare. Remember insurance plans are allowed to pass their Obamacare taxes to other people via higher premiums. I am paying $900 a month for just me and wife. Back in 2012 it was $600 a month for all 4 of us (wife and 2 dependents). With the other 2 dependents it would have been $1500, then another $1000 more that my corporation contributes every month. The dependents health at young age in 20s did not require a lot of out of pocket expenses and deductibles because they are young in healthy. Also the wife and I get screwed because we are in our 50's. The older you get the more insurance companies are allowed to charge. When one of my dependents when from age 22 to age 23 the cost for his portion of the premium I was paying went through the roof.

Also the medicaid insurance is not as good as private insurance. Many places don't accept medicaid. My 2 dependents told me they are not voting democrat because they see how messed up things are with the health care economy. They thought they would be on their parents insurance until age 27.

So we go from a better insurance situation in 2012 at a cheaper price and better services for everyone to a worse situation in 2014. BTW the deductibles on the corporate insurance are higher than they were in 2012.

If I were giving a young man advice today I would tell him not to marry and not to have kids. The Obamacare system is anti family/consumer. They need to take an ax to Obamacare system and redo it. I will admit that the good thing is that preexisting conditions are covered.

Lets not forget a Democrat state of Maryland voted for a Republican governor. The Democrat lost because of Obamacare.

The ACA (Affordable Care ACT) should be renamed to IRA (Insurance Ripoff Act)

Just did my taxes. Went from getting a big refund from 2013 to writing out big check for 2014 taxes. I was not able to claim my children for dependents  and no educational tax credit as a result. I noticed the tax software asked if I had health insurance for the whole year.

Its funny that the IRS sent several notifications to all the folks who they thought would be eligible for educational tax credit the past few months, multiple times. I think they knew there could be a uproar after people did their 2014 tax returns.

Your inability to claim your children as dependents?

Must be the dumbest fucking post on taxes and ACA

I took my dependents of my health insurance plan because it became to expensive due to Obama care. They got on Medicaid as a result.  Because of that I can't claim them. So I go from getting a $2500 refund to writing a $2500 check.

Go bull shit someone who is as ignorant as you. Medical insurance was never tax deductible. Who were you claiming on medical insurance? Your parents? Not possible. Your children? If they are eligible for medicaid then there something else seriously wrong.

Go sell this shit to someone more ignorant than you.

If you loose one your dependents your taxes will go up like mine did. I guess it is a good thing that I did not over spend on the hobby, otherwise I would have had to borrow money to pay the tax bill yesterday.

Is there anyone in America that was suprised by this?  It's been in the news for a couple of years now!

By taking your children off your Obamacare policy, you have substantially lowered your own premium and no longer have to pay for their out of pocket costs and deductibles. Medicaid will cover their health care expenses for you. Even better ,you probably will qualify for a subsidy that knocks at least $2500 off your premium.

And you now qualify for a preventative physical at no additional cost. We hope you are healthy but be sure to ask for a mental health screening so we can see if there some physical reason why you are so bad with numbers.

And, if you are healthy, you can revel in the satisfaction that your premium dollars in part will go to pay for health care expenses of those who are really sick.

Now doesn’t that missing refund seem kind of pathetic once you understand how Obamacare has changed the game for you

OK you don't qualify for subsidies but let's run the numbers anyway.

First, that $600 a month you paid pre-Obamacare came with two significant limitations – there was a yearly cap on what the insurer would pay and a lifetime cap on what the insurer would pay. So while you “thought” you had health insurance what you really had was coverage for only routine health problems. If you or your wife developed cancer or some other serious illness, you would run out of insurance in a hurry.

Your $900 Obamacare policy is real health insurance. Now matter if you need a heart and lung transplant and have cancer, you are covered.

Second, that $600 a month you paid in 2012 would not be $600 a month in 2015. If Obamacare had not been enacted, your insurer would have raised your premiums 6 to 8 % each year. So it would still have been about the same – maybe a little less – as you are paying under Obamacare.

Simply comparing premiums – which is what every Obamacare hater on the Board has done when bemoaning the high cost of Obamacare – is a completely invalid way to make the comparison. You have to factor in the increased coverage you receive, the deductibles and out of pocket costs,  and compute the amount the pre-Obamacare insurance would have risen to have any idea as to the comparison.

If you do this, you will find that you are way ahead
