You are running into the opening of the UN General assembly and the visit by the Pope.  Big Crush Middle to end of September.  Plus traffic nightmare.

So it looks like hotel prices are doing a sharp climb after Labor Day, often becoming twice or even three times more expensive.... are there any good mid-range (200-300) hotels in Manhattan that anyone knows of after Labor Day?

It's crazy how cheap hotels are now.  I stayed in one last night for $150 that will be $500 in about a month.  I haven't figured out a solution to peak NYC hotel prices.  Good luck with that!

...I have a simple formula when reserving hotel rooms.  My first call of the day, takes care of the room expense for the day; not literally, but .....

I am very low volume, and thankfully, my dates are all multi hour.  If a gentleman is willing to gift me my honorarium, he deserves to be treated to a four, or five star hotel environment.

On both weekdays and weekends, September is a really bad month.  A few years ago, weekends at 3-star properties were $500.  Weekdays are worse.  Good luck!

The UN meets during this time, bringing in politicians, media, and assorted riff-raff from all over the world.  Plus that, it is an active period for the financial markets.  Add to that the start of football season, and playoff season in baseball, and lastly it is the last chance to travel to the City before the weather turns cold.

Just the way it is..

If you are seeking 4 star, no luck.
