Government meddling was largely responsible for the housing bubble. In 2008 three quarters of bad loans were on the books of govt agencies. Congress repeatedly pushed banks to lend money to low income borrowers.
 Reich is wrong.

Just the fact that banks were gambling with the customers money in 2008.

...Freshman Republican senator Thom Tillis is even against making employees wash their hands after using the restroom as long as signs are posted to that effect so customers are aware of it.

If you ever meet Tillis, don't shake hands with him!

because they see people as helpless infants who need to rely on big daddy for all their needs. That's why so many slip and fall lawyers contribute to Dems. They're always saying government should stay out of our bedrooms. I agree. But they have no problem with government getting involved with every other aspect of out lives.

...only to let employers "opt out" as long as they let the public know. Which in this case, no sane establishment would do.

...besides, how does any of us really know if the employee has complied. Sure there are signs posted. We've all seen them. But there is no guarantee that it happens... Unless, you're suggesting all restaurants and bars install video surveillance? Where do you draw the line to protect your privacy?

“I don’t have any problem with Starbucks if they choose to opt out of this policy as long as they post a sign that says, ‘We don’t require our employees to wash their hands after they use the restroom,’” Tillis responded. “The market will take care of that.”

He's right. Government is not protecting anyone by regulating that employees wash their hands. Customers would simply not go there. But trying to explain market forces to a Marxist pawn is like trying to teach a arithmetic to a chimp.

And, who is going to enforce the law requiring Starbucks to post those signs? Is that going to be based on the honor system? ;)
