...insurance carrier will cover some, if not all of the jury award and Rupert Murdoch, owner of HarperCollins, will pick up the rest because he's such a compassionate conservative.

Kyle did not have liability insurance for this kind of verdict and the publisher’s liability insurance at best would cover only $500,000 of the $1.8 million verdict. The Kyle estate will have to pay the $1.3 million balance –plus judgment interest on $1.8 million - if it can, and the only way it can is from royalties from the book and movie, assuming Kyle retained some right to movie profits.
With respect to the $500,000 insurance may cover, that much and more will all go to …drum roll…Jesse’s lawyers. Jesse is already on record as saying atty fees exceed more than half of the verdict.
That is why Jesse is gleefully watching the movie and book make profits because the judgment is worthless to him otherwise.
As for Murdoch paying it, I have not read of any such offer. Given that Jesse has an independent lawsuit against Harper Collins for their inept handling of the case – they left the Scruffy story in the book even after the defamation lawsuit was filed and admitted to the media the publicity was “priceless”- I say he is more likely to fire someone at Harper Collins
