Australia does have lower rates of gun violence. Mostly because they outlawed gun ownership. But Australia has a far worse problem with overall crime. In the last 15 years, Australia's crime rate has steadily increased. Physical assaults have doubled.

The next logical step to removing military hardware from the municipal PDs, would be replacing that hardware with new military hardware, such as armed drones.

There's a reason why Republicans don't want a Surgeon General who talks about guns like it's a health issue. The reason is because it's *not* a health issue.
The only reason why the gun grabbing left wants organizations like the CDC to talk about guns is because such a conversation *eliminates* why people own guns in the first place, i.e. self-defense.
You could play the same trick by only looking at how horrific automobile fatalities are, except the difference here is that everyone accepts that automobiles have a useful purpose. When you have a surgeon general talking about guns like they're fucking diseases, it ignores that guns are frequently used for self-defense.
There are pros and cons to everything. The government agency that is better suited to examining the pros and cons of gun ownership is the Justice Department or the FBI. Not the CDC or the surgeon general. Bullets are not diseases. You wouldn't want a doctor to give you a firearm safety training course. And you wouldn't want a firearm instructor performing surgery either.
We are a big country, with 314 million people. Bad shit is happening somewhere in this country, constantly. There are 87 million gun owners in this country, owning 300 million guns. And 1 guy, who thinks he's Batman walks into a movie theater and shoots people. Why in the world would you think that this means we have a gun issue and not a mental illness treatment issue?
This country does have a problem. We have a corporate for-profit news media, who makes more money when they get higher ratings. They get higher ratings when they scare the shit out of people. 14 years ago it was Y2K. Remember that shit? How the entire world was going to end because of a stupid computer glitch? Guess what? Nothing fucking happened. But it sold a lot of newspapers. Then it was terrorism. Remember that shit? Remember duct tape? Remember anthrax? Weren't we all going to die from terrorism at any second?
It's the same ole shit. Today the thing you're supposed to be afraid of is guns. Why? Because the media told you to be afraid of them. You have the impression, I'm sure, that gun violence is increasing, when the fact of the matter is that gun violence is fucking plummeting. Even mass shootings have declined. The only thing that's increased is the media sensationalism about this issue.

Yesterday's shooting in Philly shows guns are used to kill estranged wives, children, family members and bosses who have laid you off. What kind of society you live in? In this country the chances of an innocent man, woman, child getting shot and killed by a gun (used by a stranger or a neighbor, own father, mother, grandfather, grandmother) is 100% more than any other country.
You don't need guns to grow up, get educated and make a living. Hundreds of countries have proved it.
